12. The Code of Honor (season 1)

Ben encounters a group of heroic vigilantes with their own code of ethics.

Scene: A quiet alleyway in Bellwood, late at night. Ben, Gwen, Kevin, Kassandra, and Max are investigating rumors of a new group of vigilantes patrolling the city.

Ben: (looking around) You sure this is the place, Grandpa? It's quiet. Too quiet.

Max: (nodding) I'm sure, Ben. I've heard reports that this vigilante group has been keeping watch here for the past few nights.

Kevin: (smirking) Vigilantes, huh? Hope they know they're messing with the professionals.

Kassandra: (rolling her eyes) Right, because you know all about "professionalism," Kevin.

Kevin: (grins) Hey, I've got a reputation to uphold!

Suddenly, a figure steps out from the shadows, followed by several others. The leader, a tall figure with a mask and dark suit, speaks up.

Leader: (calmly) Ben Tennyson. Gwen, Kevin, and... the famous Max Tennyson. We've been expecting you.

Ben: (defensive) Expecting us? You're the ones trespassing on our turf.

Leader: (smiling) We're not here to fight. We're here because we believe we share the same goal.

Gwen: And that is?

Leader: (seriously) Protecting this city. But we do it a bit differently.

Another vigilante steps forward, a young woman with a fierce look in her eyes.

Vigilante Woman: (smirking) We don't play nice like you do. We're not afraid to do what's necessary to keep people safe.

Ben: (frowning) "What's necessary?" Sounds like you're crossing lines.

Kevin: (folds his arms) And trust me, we know all about crossing lines. Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Leader: (shrugs) Right and wrong are subjective, Kevin Levin. We believe in handling threats before they even reach the innocent. We don't wait for trouble to find us.

Max: (sternly) A code of honor is important. Protecting people means respecting the boundaries that keep us from becoming the very things we're fighting against.

Kassandra: (adds softly) You can't bring peace with fear.

The leader's expression softens slightly.

Leader: Perhaps. But we've seen too much of this city's darkness. And we've made sacrifices... all of us. The Code of Honor we follow isn't about kindness; it's about survival.

Gwen: (firmly) And what happens when you lose yourself to that darkness? Who will protect you then?

Vigilante Woman: (hesitates, looking away) We don't need protection. We know what we're doing.

Ben: (steps forward) Look, I get it. Sometimes it feels like the only way to stop the bad guys is to get your hands dirty. But if you cross that line, what makes you any different from them?

Leader: (pauses) You think it's that easy, Ben? I've watched people suffer. People I couldn't protect because I played by the rules. And I won't let that happen again.
