Fiction 17- WOOING THE BUTLER

Dedicated to Aira:<

•••••

I was busy admiring myself in front of my vanity mirror inside my bedroom when I heard my phone rang. I picked it up and answered the call from a very good friend.

[Hello, Barry! Finally, you call!] I exclaimed, all smiles in the world.

[I just got home from Hawaii. What was that message you sent me last week? You want to get rid of—] she asked, rinig ko pa ang pagsakay niya sa sasakyan.

[I want her gone, Barry.] I cut her off, my voice was calm. [Masiyado nang magulo ang buhay ko.]

[Alam ba 'to ng legal guardian mo? What was his name again? Mario? Marlo?]

I rolled my eyes and continued applying my red lipstick. [It's Amando. And wait, bakit naman kailangan niyang malaman?] I urged.

I heared her scoffed from the other line. [Maang-maangan? Hindi ba siya ang dahilan kung bakit naputulan ng kamay 'yung manyak na manliligaw mo noon?]

I paused, staring into my reflection, remembering that horrifying scene where I saw Amando for the first time hurting someone— physically, that it almost kill my suitor before.

[Why do you need to brought that up? That was years ago, Barry.]

[But it's true! Kaya bakit ka pa sa akin magpapaalam kung gusto mong idispatsa si—]

[Stop, Barry.]

[If you really want to get rid of who that human being you should ask Amando for help. You know of all people what he is capable of.]

[Nevermind. Nagbago na isip ko.] I said, finality in my words.

[Basta if something happened, call me right away. I need to go. Bye, Auro.]

When she ended the call, I stood up only to be met by Amando who was just standing on my door.

"Putang— Amando! Bakit nakatayo ka diyan?!" gulat na sigaw ko at napahawak pa sa bandang puso ko.

"Hinihintay na po kayo ni Ma'am Rebecca sa labas. Sabay na raw po kayong kumain." sagot niya at akmang tatalikod na nang tawagin ko siya.

"Amando, wait. That was just Barry. You know her, Barbara Sagrado. I just asked her for help—"

"Hindi ko naman tinatanong."

I blinked twice by his unexpected answer. "R-right, but that was just nothing—"

"May binabalak ka na naman ba? Sino na namang ipapaligpit mo?" he asked, his eyes darted on me like he looked so disappointed.

"No one. I told you it's just nothing—"

"Huwag ka na magsinungaling. Gusto mo ipaligpit si Vivian, tama?"

I looked away when he pointed out my plan.

"Hindi ka pa rin ba titigil—"

"She doesn't belong here, Amando!"

"At ako? Hindi naman ako dapat nandito, bakit hindi mo rin ako ipaligpit?" he challenged me.

"What?" my brow furrowed in confusion. "Bakit ko naman gagawin 'yon?"

"Aurora, hindi mo ba nakikita? Unti-unti ka nang napapahamak sa mga ginagawa mo. Una, nalaman na nina Sam at Mercy ang totoo tungkol sa inyo ni Doc Orly. Pangalawa, kay Iñigo at pangatlo, ito? Paano kung sa susunod, sa'yo naman bumaliktad lahat?" he ranted.
