Fiction 10: HUSBAND DUTIES
Dedicated to Chiana:>
•••••
Aurora had always been a dedicated CEO of the Golden Palacios Mining, her days spent tirelessly managing the operations at the mining site. As she stepped out of the heavy steel doors of the company, the sun's rays greeted her, a stark contrast to the dim, industrious atmosphere she had just left behind
"Madam, sino pong hinihintay niyo? Si Sir Amando po ba?" her secretary asked with curious look in her eyes.
"No, I'm waiting for my driver." she replied, her thoughts clouded by the day's exhausting meetings.
"Congratulations nga po pala sa wedding niyo, Ma'am." the secretary added, a bright smile lighting up her face.
"Thank you, Maureen." Aurora said, her mood softening slightly, yet the fatigue weighed heavily on her shoulders.
"Hindi po ba dapat nasa honeymoon kayo ngayon?"
"Next week pa ang alis namin." Aurora explained, glancing at her watch, feeling the minutes slipping away. Just then, a van pulled up in front of her, and she felt a wave of relief wash over her. "I have to go, Maureen. Mag-ingat ka pauwi."
Once inside the van, she was greeted by Rico
"Good afternoon, Madam. Uwi na po tayo?""Yes, please. I am so tired, Rico." Aurora replied, sinking into the plush seat.
"Sakto pag-uwi naghihintay na rin ang pahinga niyo, Madam." Rico said with a hint of excitement, making Aurora smile despite her exhaustion.
As they made their way home, Aurora allowed herself a moment of rest, her eyelids growing heavy. When they arrived at the estate, she woke up in time and got off from the van, rubbing her sore neck, when a familiar voice called from the entrance.
"Mahal!" she turned and saw Amando waving at her, his smile sending warmth that washed away her fatigue.
With a sigh of relief, she hurried over to him and enveloped him in a tight embrace. Amando held her close, gently massaging the back of her head in a comforting gesture.
"Kamusta ang meeting?" he asked softly.
"Nakakapagod." Aurora replied, her voice barely above a whisper, burdened by the day's demands.
She leaned against him as he stroked the back of her head, easing some of her tension. Aurora allowed herself to breathe. The weight of her responsibilities melted away with the presence of Amando.
As Amando straightened the bed covers, he noticed that Aurora was already drifting into sleepiness while gently brushing her long hair in front of the vanity mirror.
Feeling playful, Amando approached Aurora, gently taking the brush from her hand. "Ako na."
Aurora closed her eyes, relishing the moment as her husband began to brush through her hair with care.
"Magpahinga ka—" he began, but before he could finish, Aurora's eyes shot open.
"Oh shit! I forgot to change my nail color, Amando!" her sudden outburst startled him, halting the rhythmic strokes of the brush.
"Bukas na—" he tried to reason, but she was already determined.
"Ngayon ang appointment ko." she was about to stood up, ready to rush off, but Amando gently placed a hand on her shoulders, their eyes locking in the reflection of the mirror.
