It was a wonderfully bright day when your aunt's soulmate died. Now, normally in movies when someone dies there is no sun shining or people laughing. Only sadness. But this was a different situation than those scenes. Those scenes depicted how your father felt when your mother died.

Your aunt Lu married for money. She didn't care about finding her one true love in her young age. It was always a decision she regretted, and one she constantly warned about now as she grew older. Having that happiness of being together with your other half was irreplaceable. She never found hers, so she didn't know what it was like. Your father did. He would cherish it until his heart gave out.

Ever since your mother died and you had to watch your father go through that horrible pain of his other half being ripped away from him, you almost wanted to give up ever trying to find yours. That pain of losing them would be unbearable to deal with, should the misfortune ever fall upon you. It took years of convincing from your father and aunt before you caved.

They both grieved about the loss of one who was supposed to be there. The tugging feeling on your heartstrings would never cease until the flame within was ignited.

"Hello, my little sunbeam," your father's voice chirped. He kissed your forehead good morning. It was an oddity to see him up and around this early.

"Father, what are you doing up already? You are still supposed to be in bed," you reprimanded.

"I couldn't...I'm sorry, what time is it?" Your father's voice trailed off in the middle of his sentence. His e/c shared the same hue as yours. The only difference was that his were misty, glazed over almost.

"Time for bed, father," you replied quietly. "Look, it's near ten in the evening. You should have been asleep ages ago."

"Ten...T-ten in the evening. Sleep. I should sleep," his words were jumbled and slipped over others without care. It was a horrible thing to witness.

This was just one of the symptoms caused by the loss of a soulmate. Your brain becomes muddled as you fall farther from your lost loved one. It was almost as if your brain rots along with your graved love one. Sooner or later, he too would perish. For that was the terribly painful reality of being linked to another.

It was a miracle Aunt Lu didn't suffer the same fate. Her soulmate was never found. While regretful, she never actively pursued her half. Although, her husband was an asshole, to say the least.

A knock on the door pulled you away from your thoughts. Speak of the devil. It was Aunt Lu.

"Good morning, sunbeam," she too kissed your forehead before pushing past you into your living room. "Is my brother asleep still?"

"I just sent him up to bed," you replied, chewing on your bottom lip. "Aunt Lu, it's getting worse. I'm worried he won't make it till the end of the year."

Her brown eyes shone yellow in what appeared like fear. "If it is to happen, then so be it. We cannot stop fate. How much longer is left on his timer? Has it begun to tick downwards again?"

"It started the day after mother died," you sighed deeply. "He doesn't have too long left, Aunt Lu."

"I can only hope his death is as peaceful as Mirisa's was. She was lucky, you know. Her time ticked down just before she was hit by that truck."
