As Felix wandered through the dimly lit streets of Seoul, the cacophony of life pulsed around him— laughter, music, and the distant hum of traffic blending into a symphony of urban vibrancy. Each step felt like a release from the shackles of expectation, a moment of reprieve from the life his father had mapped out for him. He paused at a corner, watching the throngs of people bustle about, reveling in the freedom of anonymity.
Just as he was about to turn down another alley, the enticing smell of fried food wafted past him. Curiosity piqued, he followed the scent, leading him to a small street food stall. There, he spotted Chan, sitting on a rickety plastic chair, a corn dog in hand and a satisfied grin on his face.
"What are you doing here?" Felix asked, feigning nonchalance but unable to hide the spark of surprise in his voice.
Chan looked up, his face brightening as he recognized Felix. "Just grabbing some food. This place has the best corn dogs in the city!" He gestured to the vendor, who was busily frying another batch of snacks. "Care to join me?"
Felix hesitated, the remnants of his earlier annoyance still simmering beneath the surface. But the warmth in Chan's invitation was hard to resist, and he found himself nodding. "Alright, I'll have a coffee."
As they sat together, the contrast between their worlds was palpable. Chan, dressed in a worn T-shirt and jeans, exuded an easy charm that drew people in. Felix, on the other hand, felt like a statue carved from ice, sharp edges and a reserved demeanor that warded off familiarity.
"I've never seen you around here," Chan said, stirring his coffee. "What's someone like you doing in a place like this?"
Felix shrugged, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Just trying to escape the mundane for a bit. You know how it is."
Chan chuckled, taking a sip of his drink. "Is that how you see your life? Mundane?"
"More like... predictable," Felix replied bluntly. "Everything is laid out for me, every step I take is calculated. I'm just a puppet in my father's show."
Chan frowned, leaning forward with genuine curiosity. "But isn't that your choice? To live that way?" Felix scoffed, running a hand through his hair. "Not really. I've been conditioned to think it's what I
want. But sometimes, I wonder if I'd be happier choosing a different path."
"Maybe happiness is about embracing the chaos," Chan suggested, his eyes shining with enthusiasm. "Life isn't always perfect, but the imperfections make it interesting. Like this corn dog— it's messy, but it's damn good."
Felix found himself smiling, appreciating Chan's perspective. "You have a way of seeing things that's refreshing. I envy that."
