A/N : INCOMING FLUFF ALERT!
/
Mikha hummed softly to herself as she made her way up the steps to Aiah's apartment, a bouquet of sunflowers and baby's breath tucked carefully under her arm. The flowers were a last-minute purchase on her way over—Aiah had once mentioned that she loved sunflowers because they reminded her of mornings spent painting in her childhood home, light spilling into the windows. Mikha thought it was the perfect touch for their date night. Her phone buzzed in her pocket as she reached Aiah's door. She pulled it out, half-smiling as she imagined it was a text from Aiah teasing her about being on her way.
Instead, it was a curt message.
Aiah: Don't bother. I'm staying in tonight.Mikha stopped in her tracks, her heart sinking. She frowned, rereading the text. Confused, she knocked on the door anyway, clutching the flowers a little tighter. A moment later, Aiah opened it, standing there in an oversized sweatshirt and leggings, her long brunette hair tied loosely at the nape of her neck. Her glowing hazel eyes, which were usually warm and welcoming, now carried a faint edge of coldness that Mikha wasn't used to.
"Aiah," Mikha said, forcing a small smile and holding up the bouquet. "Hey. I—uh—got these for you."
Aiah glanced at the flowers, her lips pressing into a thin line. She stepped aside without saying a word, letting Mikha enter the apartment.
The tension in the room hit Mikha immediately. It was the kind of silence that wasn't just empty—it carried weight. She could feel it in the way Aiah avoided looking at her as she walked back to the couch and sat down, crossing her arms.
Mikha placed the flowers on the counter, running a hand through her long red hair as she tried to find the right words. "Is everything okay?"
Aiah's laugh was soft, almost bitter. "Is everything okay?" she repeated, shaking her head. "You're kidding, right?"
Mikha frowned, stepping closer. "No, I'm not kidding. What's going on? Why are you mad?"
Aiah's gaze snapped to hers, the coldness now replaced by something sharper. "I told you to pick me up at 8, Mikha. 8, not 9."
"What?" Mikha said, blinking in confusion. "You said 9."
"No," Aiah said, her voice rising slightly. "I said 8. And I've been waiting here, dressed and ready, for almost an hour. I thought something happened to you. I called—texted—but nothing."
Mikha's mind reeled as she reached into her jacket pocket, pulling out her phone. Sure enough, there were three missed calls and a handful of texts from Aiah, all sent between 8:05 and 8:30. She winced. "Shit, Aiah, I'm sorry. I must've gotten the time wrong."
"You think?" Aiah said, her voice clipped. "Do you know how stupid I felt sitting here, waiting like some idiot? And then when you didn't show up, I thought maybe... maybe you just forgot about me."
Mikha's chest tightened at the words. "Aiah, no," she said quickly, stepping closer to her. "I didn't forget. I would never forget. I just... I don't know. I messed up, okay? But it wasn't on purpose."
Aiah sighed, her shoulders slumping as she leaned back into the couch. "It's not just about the time, Mikha. It's—" She hesitated, her voice softening. "It's the fact that you didn't even check your phone. I was sitting here wondering if you were okay, and you were... what? Buying flowers?"
