44-Torah Week – Devarim (Words) דְּבָרִים

Portion Summary

Known in English as Deuteronomy, from the Greek term Deuteronomy (second law), this book serves as a repetition and review of the covenant made between YHVH and Israel.

Deuteronomy features Moses' farewell address, urging faithfulness to the covenant as Israel prepares to enter Canaan. This book is structured like ancient covenant documents, reemphasizing the laws and introducing new guidance for Israel's future in the Promised Land.

The Israelites are assembled on the plains of Moab, across the Jordan River from Jericho, as Moses delivers these final instructions.
