49 - Torah Week: Ki Tetze ("When You Go") כִּי־תֵצֵא
Portion Summary
In this forty-ninth Torah portion, Ki Tetze (כִּי־תֵצֵא), means "when you go," taken from (Deuteronomy 21:10): "When you go out to battle against your enemies." This reading focuses on various laws given to Israel as part of the covenantal code. Unlike legal texts alone, these laws are covenantal expectations and instructions for daily life in alignment with YHVH's standards of justice, compassion, and holiness.
This portion includes laws on ethical treatment of captives, property restoration, fair labor, family relationships, and more. Through this reading, the Israelites are reminded of their identity as YHVH's people, obligated to uphold justice and integrity in all aspects of their lives.
