My mom told me that no matter how much I might grow to hate her or if she dies or anything, she wants me to keep something for the rest of my life. Threw hard and thick times she told me to keep this saying for the rest of my life. 'If you weren't invited, don't ask.' My mother died when I was sixteen. It was quite weird because she had me when she was sixteen and made a promise that whenever I turned seventeen I could say I outlived her by not having kids. I was so set on living up to that, that I didn't realize how she was acting.

Later on, I found out that she was at stage four cancer and died the day before my birthday. Honestly, for the longest, I was pissed with her. I knew for the longest time that every year I'm not going to want to celebrate my birthday because I would remember my mother. But over time I forgave her. And instead, I hated myself. It wasn't the best thing to do but it was better than blaming my dead mother. Every day I would sit in my room and just think about what she said. It was the only advice she ever gave me that stuck around with me. And I'm glad it did.

But I wished I would have listened.

I stood there in front of the married couple looking dumb ass hell. So let me get this straight, Skylar has been flirting with me all this time and we even slept together, Melanie met me at the park and told me to meet up for coffee, and then gave me her number, and then kissed me. Yeah. I'm okay.

Perfectly fine.

"So you two are married?" They looked at each other and smiled like never before.

"For twelve years, yes." If I'm being real here there was a touch of jealousy that hit me. Looking at them so happy and in love made me think that they are just playing with me like they just saw an opportunity to feel something new and meaningless. Yes I wanted it to be that way but I also didn't. There was a small part of me that I wanted to feel loved and precious by two of these beautiful women. Then it hit me.

I want someone.

I felt an arm wrap around my waist. "What do I miss?" I turned to see Layla smiling down at me. I have her. Maybe this could go somewhere. I smiled at her leaned into her more and laid my head on her shoulder.

"Nothing much. This is my boss Skylar and her wife Melanie." I closed my eyes and smiled. When I said the word 'wife' I didn't even get bothered by it. I had Layla in this moment and I felt safe and loved. I felt like someone loved me. For me and not for my body. I decided to open my eyes and saw Skylar and Melanie giving me the stink eye. I chuckled into her neck.

"Did I accidentally kill their cat or something?" She whispered to me. I chuckled again. "Hey, aren't you that girl from the couch!" I kicked Layla in the shen. I don't need Skylar to know that I already know her wife. Honestly, there was a thought in my head where they both knew that the other was trying to get to me and trying to see who I would fall for more or something. "I'm going to go refill my drink." I nodded my head took the glass of wine she got me and walked away. I immediately missed her touch.

I looked down at the wine and then over at the wine table. There were about twenty kinds of wine and I saw that she got my favorite. We did work together for a while so we got to learn a lot about each other. "So are you two dating?" I looked over and saw Skylar narrowing her eyes at me as Melanie waited impatiently for my answer.

"Not at the moment."

"So you think you might?" Melanie asked.

"I don't know." I looked over at Layla and we made eye contact. She rose her glass of wine and mouthed the words, 'This shit is good' with a little wink at the end. I smiled and turned back to face them. "She does make me happy."

"Well with someone as beautiful as you are I have no doubt you make her happy too." Note to self. Melanie is not only a better team player but also a better actor.

"So are you guys counting this as a date?" Skylar asked.

"Well she assumes it is so I won't stop her."

"Do you think it is?" I looked at both of them and saw something I couldn't recognize, but I didn't like it.

"No. I want our first date to be something more secluded." I smiled and turned back to Layla. "Well, I must be going. I am driving her home and I don't need barf in my car." They both nodded their heads with a little anger in their eyes. I walked away and walked up to Layla. Once she saw me she smiled her perfect straight white teeth and opened her arms for me to hug her.

"You okay?" It brought a smile to my face because I heard the concern in her voice. I snugged my face into the crook of her neck.

"Yeah just tired."

"You want to go home?" I nodded my head and she put her drink down. I waved at Nate and he gave me a ' what the fuck look' which made me laugh. As we were leaving I turned my head and saw both Skylar and Melanie looking at me from different angles. I turned my head and focused on what was happening now.

*******

We pulled up to my house and Layla noticed I was tired. She got out of the car opened my side and picked me up. She carried me to the front of my house bridal style with me giggling the entire time. I gave her my key and she opened the door and then put me down. I looked back towards her and smiled. She smiled a little bit, it looked like she was nervous about something. "Spit it out," I said. She smiled cause she knew I can read her better than she knew.

"Um I was just wondering if I could stay the night with you, we don't have to do anything I-hell never mind." She started to walk away but I quickly grabbed her wrist.

"I would love it if you stayed." She looked surprised.

"Really?" I smiled.

"Yes. But I am tired." She shook her head.

"Yeah of course." We both smiled and I let her in. I sat all my stuff on the counter and immediately went to my bedroom. I haven't been able to find my purse which is weird because I don't even remember the last time I had it. Layla followed me into my room and sat on my bed as I went into my closet and got us both something to wear. I changed in the closet and gave Layla hers.

I got in my bed laid down and watched her change. Once she was fully clothed she looked at me and smiled. "Thought you were tired." We both chuckled as she got in bed with me.

"I am but I'm still allowed to look at beautiful artwork." She smiled down at me and gave me a light kiss on my lips. Once she moved away we stared at each other and just smiled. "Good night." She kissed me one more time. I turned around and scooted closer to her and she wrapped her arm around my waist.

"Good night love." I went to bed with a smile on my face and a feeling in my stomach that I didn't like.

It could be her.
