Goodbyes

I used my knee to push off of the mattress and slipped onto Alice's lap. I hummed in contentment as her cold hands slipped into my shirt. I continued to place soft kisses on her neck, loving the sounds of her giggles. "Aspen, I am trying to talk to you."

I stopped kissing her neck so I could properly glare at her. I was giving her the chance to say what she wanted to say. "I'm aware. You keep moving your lips so I have to settle for your neck."

"But we need to talk." She said.

"One more kiss?" I pleaded. Alice caved in with a smile and meshed her lips with mine. I didn't hesitate to open my mouth to her, letting her further our kiss.

Much to my disappointment, the kiss came to an end, eventually. After all, I needed air. Alice pulled away with her eyes squeezed shut and her brows furrowed. "God, I want to taste you."

I wouldn't have been opposed to that at all. In fact, I eagerly welcomed the idea. "Do it."

"Not in that way." Alice leaned into the crook of my neck and let out a light hum against it. "I'll miss this."

"Me too." I sighed. I was already dreading leaving Forks. It had only been two weeks since my run in with James, but Alice and I had grown so much closer since then. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"

"It doesn't matter what I want." Alice shook her head. "Of course, I want you to stay in Forks. I want you to stay here with me. But you're not happy here."

"I can be." Forks wasn't the best place in the world, sure. But the people in this small town were starting to make living here a little bearable. It was a shame I didn't realize it until I was leaving.

"Truthfully, I think it'll be best if you leave."

"Because of the James's incident?" I didn't blame Alice or any of the Cullens for what happened. But I could tell, that Alice harshly blamed herself.

"It's not safe for you to be with me." She said. I rushed to assure her that I would be fine but she continued to speak. "I'd rather you be safe and happy than with me. You're happy and safe in California."

Even if I were to be safer in California than in Forks, there was no reason why Alice couldn't tag along. It wasn't like she had to ask her parents for permission or anything. "You could come with me. My father has a basement."

Alice didn't even consider my offer. She immediately grimaced and shook her head. "As thrilling as it sounds to be locked up in a basement surviving off of mice and cockroaches, I'll just accept that it's not our time yet."

"I wouldn't make you live off of bugs. I'm sure there are some bunnies I can find and feed you." I wasn't exactly sure how difficult it would be to find bunnies, but I was willing to go the extra mile. "Think of it as a bonding activity."

"How romantic..." Alice mumbled.

"You're not even willing to consider it?" I whined.

Alice shook her head and planted a chaste kiss on my neck. "I have faith we'll find our way back to each other one day. We'll just have to be patient for a while."

I didn't see the point in waiting for the 'inevitable'. If Alice and I were meant to be... why couldn't we be together now? Would she still even want me after a while? "Would you still want to be with me?"

"I'll always want to be with you," Alice assured me. "Do you plan on being with anyone else?"

I could never really see myself with anyone in the first place. Well, before I met Alice. Now I couldn't see myself with anyone except for her. But I couldn't promise that I wouldn't want anyone else. "Honestly? I have no idea. Depending on how long it'll be..."

"You're young, you should explore all life has to offer," Alice said softly.

"Even if it's not with you?" I asked.

She nodded. "Of course, I'd rather it be with me. But I know that I can't control that. And it would be wrong of me to ask you to save yourself for me."

I laughed. "You could do whatever you wanted."

"Taking your virginity before you leave me doesn't seem like the best idea," Alice mumbled, it seemed like she was trying to convince herself more than me. I could tell the thought had crossed her mind before. "And I wasn't just talking about sex."

"Then what were you talking about?" I was confused.

"Dating... getting married," Alice said.

The topic of dating and getting married didn't seem too scary to me. But I definitely wasn't ready for marriage with anyone. Dating on the other hand, I could do that. "I don't understand you, Alice. Why can't we just be together? Long distance relationships are very doable."

"You won't be as happy if you're tethered to me." Alice insisted.

I narrowed my eyes, there was something that she wasn't telling me. "Did you have a vision of it or something? Is that why you're so sure?"

Alice tried to distract me by sensually running her hand along my thigh. I glared at her and she laughed."I would love to explain it but I think it's just best if you trust me."

"You're so stubborn for no reason," I complained.

Alice scoffed. "Says you."

I was definitely not stubborn. "I am not stubborn. I am... determined." Alice shot me a knowing glance.

"You're both stubborn."

I yelped and jumped closer to Alice as if that was even possible. She laughed. "Come to ruin our moment?"

Emmett laughed. "It's time for Aspen to say goodbye to the rest of us. You can't keep hogging her." Before any of us could protest he grabbed my arm and firmly pulled me onto my feet.

"I'll make it quick so I can come back," I promised Alice. Alice pouted somberly.

"She'll make it back to you in one piece, I promise." Emmett practically dragged me out of the room.
