"Damn it," I mumbled under my breath as I bent over to grab my car keys. I instinctively tried to grab it with my right hand, only to realize I was better off using my left hand.

"Hey, Aspen." Alice suddenly appeared next to me, scaring the living hell out of me.

I was pretty sure that the parking lot was completely empty. Most students were still in class. The students who were skipping were most likely headed home since it was close to the end of school. "Where'd you come from?" Alice nodded towards the car her family usually drove to school in. "Where'd you go?"

"What?" Alice asked.

"You've been missing for a while." The day after I broke my hand, Alice and Jasper disappeared. But he returned after a few days, Alice had been gone for two weeks.

"I visited some family in Alaska," Alice said. She didn't seem as chirpy as she usually was.

"Did you come back today? I didn't see you in class or at lunch." I spent my lunch with the Cullens since Emmett forced me to. He felt bad about what happened between Edward and me so he took me in like some broken bird. I wasn't even allowed to drive myself to or from school.

"I skipped school for a bit," Alice admitted with a smile. "I would have gone home but... my family only takes one car to school."

I narrowed my eyes, something was definitely wrong with Alice. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah." She nodded.

"Seriously?" I called her bluff. "I have nothing better to do... I'm here if you want to talk or vent. Even though we don't know each other that well."

"Where are you going?" Alice changed the subject.

"To sit in my car for a while. I have a free period." I lied.

Alice sent me a knowing glance. "Really?"

"I have a sub for gym. Since it's my last class of the day I figured there would be no harm in skipping." It was almost like having a free period... Even if the attendance office didn't think so.

"Are you ever in class?" Alice asked.

"Occasionally." I laughed. I was the antonym of a good student. I only went to school to get out of the house.

"Can we talk in your car?" Alice bit her lip. It was clear that whatever was making her upset was getting the best of her.

"Of course." I barely finished my sentence before Alice all but ran to my car. She seemed uncomfortable when she sat in the passenger's seat. To be fair, my car wasn't the fanciest. It was definitely different than what she was used to.

"Have you ever been in a relationship before?" Alice asked.

"Nope. I've been single all my life." I never minded being single, but other people made it seem like I was missing out on something. "Sounds depressing but it's actually peaceful."

Alice seemed surprised. "You've never thought about dating anyone?"

"Maybe in middle school but... there's never been a right time." I was always too focused on my family or myself. I never had time to let someone in.

"What about a right person?" She asked.

"I suppose I've been more focused on other things. I tend to miss what's right in front of me." I shrugged. "What's going on?"

Alice let out a deep sigh. "You wouldn't understand."

"Then I'll pretend to," I said.

"I've been dating this... boy for a very long time. It feels like we've been together for decades." Alice fiddled with the buckle of her belt. "And everything is so predictable with him. I know everything he'll do before he does it."
