The principal's gaze shifted to Dawn, his expression serious. "Dawn, I need you to confirm what Erevin just said. I know your father, and I trust you'll be honest. This situation is serious."
Dawn froze, the principal's words weighing heavily on her shoulders. Her heart raced as she felt the gravity of the
situation. She glanced at Erevin, whose eyes met hers with an unspoken plea for her support.
"I... um..." she stammered. The tension in the air increased, and all eyes were on her. "Erevin is telling the truth. We were just trying to buy lunch, and then-"
"Are you sure?" the principal pressed, searching her face for any sign of dishonesty.
Dawn swallowed hard, knowing how much depended on her next words. "Yes, I'm sure. We didn't do anything wrong; we just got caught in the middle of it."
The principal's gaze shifted between Erevin and Dawn. Finally, he offered a small nod, his voice firm but softened by a trace of concern. "Alright. Erevin, I want you to go straight to the nurse's office. Dawn, please escort him."
He looked at at the three students, their swollen faces and bruises showing the severity of the injuries. "The rest of you will need a proper check-up at the hospital," he announced. The delinquents mumbled in objection, but the principal silenced them with a glare.
Dawn led Erevin out of the cafeteria through the hallways, her hand lightly resting on his arm to steady him. He winced with each step, and she looked at him with genuine concern.
"Erevin..." she began, her voice soft but firm. "I don't understand why you lied to the principal. I don't like lying, and you... you made me lie to cover for you." Her brows knitted slightly, as if struggling between the warmth of her concern and her frustration.
Erevin gave her a small, slightly sheepish grin. "Well... thanks for lying for me," he said, as if trying to brush off the weight of the situation.
Dawn huffed, looking away slightly, trying to hide the softness in her gaze. "Don't thank me for that! You shouldn't have started a fight in the first place," she scolded, her tone almost like a gentle reprimand. "I don't know what you were thinking, but you can't just... go around causing chaos." Her voice softened, revealing her concern. "And look at you, all hurt because of it."
Erevin glanced at Dawn with wide eyes, his typical sharp, analytical attitude melting away into something almost puppy-like. "But I didn't start the fight," he said genuinely, his voice soft and a little wounded. "I tried to negotiate with him to give you your money back, but he grabbed me by the collar." He almost pouted, looking every bit the picture of innocence despite the bruises on his face.
She kept her gaze averted, her expression soft with concern but touched by frustration. "You could've backed out when he grabbed your collar, you know," she murmured, her voice a mix of of frustration and concern."But no, you had to act like a hero and throw ketchup in his eyes, then go after him like he was some kind of... punching bag."
Erevin shifted uncomfortably, glancing down. "I just... didn't want him to get away with it."
"What if he got away with it?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "It doesn't matter, we wouldn't have gotten into trouble." She sighed.
"If they got away with it once, they'd just take it as a green light to keep going," he murmured, his eyes wide and apologetic, the innocence there almost childish..
Dawn's voice softened, her concern deepening. "Still, you didn't have to beat them that bad,"she added gently, her gaze falling to the cut at the corner of his mouth before immediately turning away. "You could've stopped before things got so... messy."
