After defeating Troy, the Greeks set a journey to get back home to Ithaca. With ten years ahead of them. And they've faced a lot.
From the cyclops killing 5 of their men to the great storms, to opening the windbag that they were told not to open by their captain causing the storm to stray from home to facing Poseidon's wrath which led them to lose 545 men leaving them with 50, and now they were on Aeaea the island of Circe as his captain/wife defeated the goddess and the goddess decided to help them return home but it would take some time a few months had already passed.
Eurylochus kept track of all the supplies they had. Polites and Thais were doing whatever a man and his bird-wife do... where everyone else was, worried they'd lose someone. As he didn't spot one in particular...
"Where's-"
His words trailed off.. as he quickly walked around the island to look for his wife and son.
Ctimene was settled on a weathered log, its rough bark warm beneath her as she faced the vast expanse of the beach. The gentle rhythm of the ocean waves whispered in her ears, providing a soft, calming backdrop as she bounced the toddler Astyanax on her lap, his laughter mingling with the sound of the surf. She gazed out at the horizon, her thoughts clouded and swirling like the clouds above. How could she possibly share the news Circe had revealed to her four months ago? Her gaze drifted down to her stomach, which still barely hinted at the life growing within. A mix of anticipation and uncertainty wrestled in her heart as she contemplated the momentous conversation that awaited her.
As Eurylochus approached, his steps were heavy as worry set in as she had disappeared with their child. He saw her in the distance sitting by the warm, worn-down log with Astyanax in her lap who was giggling while playing.
Eurylochus let out an involuntary sigh of relief, his shoulders relaxing as he made a hasty approach toward her. His expression was a mix of concern and relief, but there was something else, a sense of wariness in his eyes. It was evident that he had caught sight of Ctimene's absent-minded state of contemplation.
"Ctimene? "
Eurylochus called out softly, his footsteps now lighter as he drew closer.
"Did you need something Eury...?" Ctimene said in a monotone voice a vast difference from the usual happy, bright voice that he knew her to have especially when she said his nickname.
Eurylochus' eyes widened a fraction at the different tone of her voice. A flicker of unease passed through him the moment it reached his ears.
He didn't like it, not one bit as he took a seat beside her, his eyes remained on hers for a moment, looking for something, anything.
He didn't speak for a few minutes, but he finally did.
"No... I was just concerned. You disappeared with Astyanax, it was unusual."
He could tell something was off, her voice lacked the usual vibrant energy and his name lacked her usual warm tone as she spoke. It worried him, his heart clenched, and he knew his wife better than the back of his palms.
He didn't speak for a moment, hesitantly placing his hand on her shoulder gently. His brown eyes remained fixated on hers, trying to determine what was going on with her.
