(David's POV )
Given everything that has transpired I decided to give her the space she requested. But it's been a couple weeks, and the last time I tried to check in with her she was working herself up trying to handle what had transpired at 'Mystique Manor'. She was having phone call after phone call, working on getting this all cleaned up, and reaching out to families of victims with her condolences. From what I can tell she's been hunkering down in her hotel room, and throwing herself into work. Thankfully the press is starting to back off, giving up on trying to get an in-person interview with Amy, and chasing the scent of the next breaking story. It was only a matter of time.
Since today is the start of a new week I figured I'd take the day off while the boys are at school, and try to convince her to possibly come sneak out for some fresh air with me. I pull up to the high end hotel, and head inside with a cup of iced coffee for her. After being waved through by the front desk lady, who has gotten used to me showing up by now. I go up to Amy's room, and knock on the door. When she answers she's mid conversation with someone on the phone, so I just hand her the coffee, and walk in after her.
"Thanks again Emma, I really appreciate it," Amy says running her other hand through her hair stressfully. "I'll wire you the money for helping me with this as soon as I can."
I look around as she finishes up her conversation at her disheveled room. Papers, empty cups, and clothes are scattered all over the place. A tell tale sign that she hasn't been doing well. Not that anyone can blame her. I hate to see her like this still hurting even without the burden of remembering all the other atrocities she's suffered through. When I turn around she hangs up the phone with a soft sullen sigh.
"Hey David," she says trying to force a smile on her beautiful face . "Good morning."
"Good morning."
She moves a bag from a chair for me to sit, and then she sits on the edge of her bed with the coffee.
"Thanks for this," she says taking a drink before she sets it down.
"You're welcome."
"So, what's up?" She asks wondering why I'm here today.
"Well, I haven't noticed any media presence since Saturday," I explain. "So I figured I'd come see if you'd like to maybe go for a walk, or something."
She gets up from the bed, and walks over to the window peeking out behind the curtain as she ponders my invitation.
"Sure," she says. "Just let me get changed real quick, and I'll put my things away for housekeeping before we go."
"Okay," I tell her. "No rush."
She grabs some clothes from her suitcases, and goes into the bathroom shutting the door. About fifteen minutes later she comes out wearing black jeans, and a nice looking grey top. She brushes her hair before putting it up in a clip, and then slides on some black tennis shoes.
"Almost ready."
Before we go she puts all her clothes in one place, and puts her phone in her purse.
"After you," I say holding the door for her.
We go out to the parking lot, and opt for taking my car. I take her to a park in town, and we get out together heading towards the paved path that goes around the small lake. I watch as she soaks in the sunlight with a deep breath. We don't speak, we just walk together around the peaceful body of water. Most people are at school, or work. Leaving the park to the retired folk, and health nuts of society. None of who care in the slightest that we are walking about. Although, I do share a knowing nod with an old man on a park bench as we walk by. Other than that, the walk remained peaceful, and she even managed a genuine smile at the sight of a gaggle of geese.
