Goodbye

The golden light of the setting sun bathed Magnolia in a warm, bittersweet glow. The Fantasia parade was still a few hours away, but the guild was bustling with energy as everyone prepared for the festivities. The Fairy Tail guildhall stood tall against the fiery hues of the horizon, casting long shadows over the town.

You spotted Laxus leaning against the fence on the outskirts of the guild’s grounds, his profile silhouetted by the sunset. He looked every bit the imposing figure he always was—broad shoulders, electric blond hair, and that signature fur-lined coat draped over his shoulders. But there was something different about him tonight. His usually confident, arrogant demeanor seemed subdued, his gaze fixed on the horizon as if he were searching for answers in the fading light.

Taking a deep breath, you approached him, your footsteps crunching softly on the gravel. He turned slightly at the sound, his piercing eyes meeting yours. For a moment, neither of you spoke. The silence was heavy, loaded with words unspoken and emotions restrained.

“You’re really leaving, huh?” you finally said, your voice steady despite the storm brewing in your chest.

Laxus nodded, his jaw tightening. “Yeah. It’s… for the best.” His voice was gruff, but there was a vulnerability in it that caught you off guard. “After everything that happened, I need to figure some things out. I need to be better.”

You stepped closer, folding your arms as you gazed at him. “You know, what you did was wrong, Laxus. All of it. The Thunder Legion, the guild... You hurt people who care about you.”

He flinched, his eyes narrowing. “I know,” he muttered. “You don’t need to remind me.”

“But,” you continued, your tone softening, “I think you needed to let it out. All that anger, all that pain… it was eating you alive. I’m glad you’re taking this time for yourself, but don’t think for a second that we don’t want you back. You’re family, Laxus. Even after everything.”

He stared at you, his expression unreadable. The tension in the air was palpable, and for a moment, you wondered if you had said too much. Then, to your surprise, his shoulders relaxed slightly, and he let out a long sigh.

“Thanks,” he said, his voice quieter than you’d ever heard it. “That means more than I can say.”

Without thinking, you stepped forward and wrapped your arms around him, pulling him into a hug. At first, he stiffened, clearly unaccustomed to the gesture. But after a moment, he relaxed, his hands hovering awkwardly before one rested lightly on your back.

As you held him, you whispered, “Take care of yourself out there. I’ll be waiting for you to come back.”

Then, before you could second-guess yourself, you tilted your head up and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. His body froze under your touch, his eyes widening as you pulled back and looked at him.

The warmth of the sunset reflected in his eyes, but he didn’t say a word. You smiled, your heart pounding, and turned to leave before he could see the blush creeping up your face.

“See you, Laxus,” you called over your shoulder, your voice trembling slightly as you walked away.

Behind you, Laxus stood frozen, his gaze locked on your retreating figure. His mind was a whirlwind of confusion, the ghost of your kiss lingering on his skin. For the first time in a long time, he felt something he couldn’t name—a mix of regret, hope, and something dangerously close to longing.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the world in twilight, Laxus found himself staring after you long after you’d disappeared, wondering what it was that you had just stirred within him.
