See You Tomorrow

The dim light of the guild hall cast warm shadows across the bustling room as Laxus sat at a corner table, sipping his beer. The celebration had long died down, but the guild’s usual energy remained. He leaned back, his fur-lined coat slung over the chair, lost in thought. A week had passed since his reinstatement, yet something felt... off.

He hadn’t seen you around—not during the party, not in the days that followed. It wasn’t like you to avoid the guild for so long, and it gnawed at the edge of his mind. As he downed the last of his drink, the sound of the guild doors creaking open drew his attention.

There you were.

The unbothered look on your face didn’t betray much, but the brief eye contact you made with him sent a jolt through his chest. He straightened slightly, watching as you crossed the hall with a determined stride and disappeared into Makarov’s office. His brows furrowed. What’s that about? he wondered, but he didn’t dwell on it long. Whatever it was, you’d tell him if you wanted to.

Thirty minutes later, you emerged, your demeanor unchanged. This time, though, you headed straight for him. Laxus glanced up as you approached, your small smile breaking through his guarded exterior.

“Hey,” you said, your voice light. “How’s it feel being back?”

He shrugged, setting his empty mug down. “Weird. But... it’s good to be back. Feels right, y’know?”

You nodded, pulling out a chair and sitting across from him. “Yeah, it does. The guild wasn’t the same without you.”

The corners of his mouth twitched, almost forming a smile. “Didn’t think anyone missed me.”

“I think you’d be surprised,” you said softly, your gaze steady.

The two of you fell into small talk, the kind of guarded conversation that came naturally when neither of you were great at expressing what you truly felt. He asked about what you’d been up to, and you teased him about how little he’d changed. It was comfortable, easy in its own awkward way.

Then, the Thunder Legion appeared, their usual boisterous energy cutting through the quiet atmosphere.

“Laxus!” Bickslow called, clapping a hand on his shoulder before noticing you. “And look who we have here! You’ve been hiding this gem from us, boss?”

“Cut it out, Bickslow,” Laxus muttered, but his tone lacked bite.

Freed smiled warmly. “It’s good to see you again,” he said, nodding to you.

Ever the jokester, Bickslow leaned closer, grinning mischievously. “You know, you look even better now. Way more attractive than before.”

Your cheeks flushed, and you let out a small laugh. “Thanks, I guess?”

Laxus shot Bickslow a look that silenced him almost immediately. The group continued chatting, but as the sky darkened and the guild began to quiet down, you stood to leave.

“It’s getting late,” you said, pulling on your coat. “I should head home.”

“I’ll walk you,” Laxus offered before he could stop himself. His voice was steady, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes—concern, maybe.

You nodded, a soft smile on your lips. “Alright.”

The walk was quiet, the kind of silence that wasn’t uncomfortable but rather reflective. The cool February air nipped at your cheeks, and the faint sound of your footsteps echoed on the cobblestone streets. Laxus walked beside you, his hands shoved in his coat pockets, his presence a comforting warmth against the chill.

After twenty minutes that felt like a heartbeat, you reached your door. You turned to face him, your expression soft.

“Thanks for walking me,” you said. “Will I see you tomorrow?”

“Of course,” he replied. “I’ll be at the guild.”

You hesitated, then smiled. “How about breakfast? There’s this new coffee shop near the city center. Meet me there at nine?”

He raised an eyebrow, clearly caught off guard, but after a brief pause, he nodded. “Yeah, sure. Nine.”

You beamed at him, your heart lighter than it had been in days. “Goodnight, Laxus.”

“Night,” he said, his voice quieter than usual.

As he turned to leave, you stepped inside, closing the door behind you. Leaning against it, you couldn’t help but smile to yourself. For the first time in a long while, things felt... right.
