Laxus’s house loomed before you as you walked up the path, its neutral gray facade illuminated by the soft glow of a nearby streetlamp. It was big, with clean, strong lines that somehow reflected its owner’s personality—practical and unassuming yet undeniably impressive.
He opened the door, gesturing for you to step inside. The warmth of the interior was a welcome relief from the night’s chill. The living room was stylish but comfortable, with dark, muted tones and minimalist decor that gave it a modern yet cozy vibe.
“Wait here,” Laxus said, disappearing into another room. Moments later, he returned with a thick, soft blanket and handed it to you. “Warm up.”
“Thanks,” you murmured, wrapping it around yourself as you settled into the plush couch.
Laxus headed toward the kitchen. As he prepared a hot drink, you couldn’t help but let your eyes wander. The room had a subtle elegance, with a few personal touches—a framed photo of the guild, a well-used armchair near the corner, and faint marks on the wooden floor that suggested someone had spent countless hours here, pacing or perhaps training.
“I like your house!” you called out, your voice carrying through the quiet.
He didn’t respond immediately, but a minute later, he returned, carrying a steaming cup of tea. He handed it to you, his expression unreadable. “I’ll show you around sometime.”
“Looking forward to it,” you replied, flashing him a small smile.
The two of you sat there in silence, sipping your tea. The warmth spread through you, and for a moment, you felt content. But the quiet stretched too long, the weight of unspoken words pressing down on both of you. Finally, you decided to break the stillness.
“Why are we so awkward around each other?” you asked, turning to look at him.
Laxus paused, his cup halfway to his lips. He set it down on the coffee table and leaned back, his gaze heavy with thought. “I’m just... bad at being approachable,” he admitted, his voice low. “I don’t know how to express what I feel. Never been good at it.”
You nodded, understanding all too well. “I get it. I feel the same. It’s like... you want to say something, but the words don’t come out right.”
He looked at you, his golden eyes softening slightly. “Yeah. Something like that.”
For a moment, you held each other’s gaze, the vulnerability between you unspoken but shared. There was something comforting in knowing neither of you had to explain too much—you just understood. You both returned to your tea, the silence no longer feeling quite so heavy.
