The morning was crisp, the air carrying a faint chill that hinted winter still lingered. By the time you reached the café, it was 8:45. The shop had a warm, inviting aura, its windows fogged slightly from the heat inside. You stood near the entrance, glancing occasionally at the bustling street, anticipation bubbling in your chest.

A few minutes later, you spotted him. Laxus strode toward you, his broad frame and familiar fur-lined coat making him stand out amidst the crowd. He looked as effortlessly confident as ever, his expression neutral until his eyes met yours.

“You’re early,” he remarked, stopping in front of you.

“Just a habit,” you replied with a small smile.

He gave a faint nod, then gestured toward the door. “Shall we?”

You stepped inside, and the warmth of the café enveloped you immediately. The two of you chose a table near the giant window, where you could watch the flow of people passing by. It was a cozy spot, the sunlight streaming in just enough to create a golden glow.

As you settled in, you glanced at him. “Slept well?”

“Yeah,” he said simply. “You?”

“I’m glad,” you replied, a smile tugging at your lips. “I did too.”

The conversation fell into a lull, the silence stretching but not uncomfortable. Before long, a waitress approached with a cheery smile, pen poised over her notepad.

“What can I get for you two?” she asked.

You ordered a warm coffee with milk and a croissant, while Laxus chose an American coffee and pancakes. The waitress left, and you found yourselves back in that quiet, the clinking of cups and murmured conversations filling the space around you.

When the food arrived, the two of you ate in relative silence, occasionally glancing out the window. Laxus seemed relaxed, but there was a tension beneath the surface, as though he wasn’t entirely sure what to say. You finished your croissant and decided to break the silence.

“What do you say we head to the guild after this? Spend the rest of the day there?” you suggested, leaning slightly forward.

Laxus paused, then nodded. “Yeah, sounds good.”

When the bill came, he reached for it, but you were faster, handing over the money before he could argue.

“Hey,” he said, his tone almost scolding. “That’s rude, you know.”

You grinned, not missing the faint exasperation in his voice. “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help myself. Just think of it as an excuse for you to invite me out next time—and pay. That way, I get another chance to spend time with you.”

He blinked, clearly caught off guard by your reasoning. After a moment, a faint smirk appeared on his face. “You’re something else, you know that?”

“Is that a yes?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, it’s a yes,” he said, shaking his head slightly as if amused by the situation.

The two of you left the café and began walking to the guild. The streets of Magnolia were lively, but neither of you felt the need to fill the walk with conversation. The quiet between you was easy, the kind of silence shared by two people who didn’t need words to enjoy each other’s presence.

When you arrived at the guild, the noise and chaos were as vibrant as ever. Before you could head inside together, the Thunder Legion spotted you both.

“Boss!” Bickslow called, waving enthusiastically as Freed and Evergreen followed closely behind.

Laxus sighed, clearly bracing himself. “Here we go.”

The three of them descended upon you, their usual energy lighting up the space. After a few moments of banter, you smiled and excused yourself.

“I’ll catch you later,” you said to Laxus, giving him a small wave before heading off to find Makarov or maybe just a quiet corner to relax.

He watched you go, his expression unreadable for a moment before he turned back to the Thunder Legion. Despite the interruption, he couldn’t help but feel that the day had started off better than most—and he knew he was looking forward to that next “date.”
