The train station bustled with activity as everyone gathered. The Strauss siblings—Mirajane, Elfman, and Lisanna—had decided to join the training, their energy bringing a lively dynamic to the group. The Thunder Legion, as always, stayed close to Laxus, though their excitement at heading to the mountains for training was evident.
When we boarded the train, everyone naturally split off into different booths. Somehow, I ended up seated with Laxus. At first, I thought he was just being his usual stoic self, but as soon as the train started moving, his expression twisted into one of sheer misery. He leaned back in his seat, his jaw tight as he gripped the armrest.
“Are you serious?” I asked, my voice full of disbelief but tinged with amusement. “The great Laxus, brought down by a little motion sickness?”
He glared at me weakly, unable to muster a witty comeback. I chuckled softly but couldn’t help feeling bad for him. Reaching into my bag, I pulled out a small pill bottle and a water bottle. “Here,” I said, handing them to him.
Laxus eyed the items with suspicion. “What is this?”
“Something to help with motion sickness,” I explained. “Trust me, it’ll work.”
He hesitated for a moment before accepting, his pride clearly wounded. After swallowing the pill and taking a sip of water, he leaned back, his head lolling against the seat.
“It’ll take a bit to kick in,” I said, watching him closely. Laxus didn’t reply. Instead, he groaned softly and, to my surprise, let his head drop onto my shoulder.
I stiffened, glancing down at him. “You okay?”
“Shut up,” he mumbled, too miserable to care about appearances.
Suppressing a laugh, I gently ruffled his hair, the corners of my lips tugging into a soft smile. Despite the situation, there was something oddly endearing about seeing him like this—vulnerable, human. Eventually, the pill began to work, and Laxus’s breathing steadied as he drifted off to sleep.

The train ride lasted three more hours, with the Thunder Legion and Strauss siblings chatting in their respective booths. Evergreen had already decided we were going to be good friends and kept stopping by to tell me as much, her enthusiasm lightening the mood. The Strauss siblings, meanwhile, kept mostly to themselves, though Mirajane occasionally peeked in to check on Laxus.
When the train finally stopped, we all grabbed our belongings and stepped out into the crisp mountain air. The station was tiny, the tracks surrounded by tall pines and rocky slopes. We were far from any city now, and the wilderness stretched endlessly around us.
Laxus, now recovered from his ordeal, hoisted his bag over his shoulder with a grunt. “Let’s move,” he said, his commanding tone cutting through the chatter.
As we walked toward our training site, the Thunder Legion stayed close to Laxus, though Bickslow and Freed made an effort to include me in their banter. Evergreen was particularly chatty, and by the time we reached the clearing where we’d be setting up camp, I felt like I’d known her for years.
The Strauss siblings were cheerful but quieter, content to focus on each other as they carried their gear. Lisanna occasionally joined in the conversation, but Elfman remained stoic, already thinking about his training, while Mirajane gave off her usual calm, motherly aura.
By the time we reached the open clearing where we’d be training, the group’s spirits were high. Laxus, though quieter than the rest, seemed to keep his eyes on me more than usual. Whatever tension lingered from yesterday was still there, but the wilderness promised a fresh start. We began setting up camp, the excitement for the intense days ahead buzzing in the air.
