The open field just outside Magnolia was bathed in the warm hues of the morning sun. The crisp air carried the faint scent of grass and earth, a perfect setting for the intense training you knew was coming. Laxus stood a few feet away, casually shrugging off his coat and tossing it aside. His usual confident smirk adorned his face as he flexed his shoulders, warming up.

“I’ll go easy on you,” he teased, his voice low and almost playful.

“Please do,” you replied with a faint smirk, already dropping into a fighting stance.

Laxus tilted his head, studying you for a moment. He knew you were strong, but seven years was a long time, and he was curious to see just how much you’d grown. Even so, he didn’t want to hurt you, so he opted to start with hand-to-hand combat instead of his usual powerful magic.

The match began, and Laxus moved quickly, testing your reflexes with swift jabs and low kicks. Though his attacks weren’t at full strength, the sheer force behind each strike was still intimidating. You dodged and countered as best as you could, focusing more on evasion than matching his brute strength. His speed and precision were undeniable, and even holding your ground was a challenge.

After an hour of sparring, your breaths were heavy, and sweat trickled down your brow. Laxus, barely winded, smirked. “Not bad. You’ve got some moves.”

“Not bad?” you shot back between breaths. “I’ve been going easy on you too.”

He chuckled, clearly unconvinced, before switching gears. “Alright, let’s work on endurance now. Push-ups. Core workouts. Keep up if you can.”

You followed his lead, dropping into push-ups and struggling to match his relentless pace. It didn’t take long for your arms to tremble and your stamina to falter, but you pushed through, refusing to give up. Laxus glanced at you, the faintest flicker of amusement in his eyes, though he said nothing.

Once you caught your breath, you weren’t ready to let things end there. “One last round,” you said, determination lacing your voice.

“Alright,” he replied with a shrug. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

This time, you surprised him with an aggressive charge, using every ounce of energy left in you. With quick movements, you managed to sweep his legs and pin him to the ground. For a brief moment, triumph surged through you. “Gotcha.”

But Laxus wasn’t one to stay down for long. With a quick maneuver, he reversed the situation, pinning you beneath him instead. His strength was overwhelming, and no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t budge him.

You stilled, realizing how close you were to him. His weight pressed against you, and as you tilted your head up, your gaze locked with his piercing green eyes. They were intense, yet softer than usual, holding something you couldn’t quite place. Your breath caught when you noticed his gaze flicker down to your lips.

Your eyes darted to his, lingering for a heartbeat too long. Before you could think, your body moved on its own. You leaned up and kissed him.

For a split second, Laxus froze, caught entirely off guard. Then, as if instinct took over, he kissed you back. His lips were firm but hesitant, unsure of how far to go. The warmth of the moment consumed you, and for those fleeting seconds, the world around you seemed to fade away.

When you finally pulled back, his expression was unreadable, his green eyes wide with surprise. You realized what had just happened, your heart racing as you tried to gather your thoughts.

“I—uh—sorry,” you stammered, unsure of what to say.

Laxus remained silent for a moment, his face slightly flushed, before his lips quirked into the faintest of smiles. “You don’t look sorry.”

That made you laugh nervously, and you quickly scrambled to your feet. “Let’s, uh, call it a day.”

He nodded, his usual confident demeanor slipping back into place, though there was still a lingering softness in his gaze. “Yeah. Same time tomorrow?”

“Sure,” you replied, your heart still pounding as you walked away, feeling his eyes on you the entire time.
