Good Morning

The morning sunlight streamed through the living room windows, casting warm golden streaks across the room. You stirred awake on Laxus’s couch, bundled under the blanket he’d thrown over you. For a moment, you were disoriented, the unfamiliar surroundings reminding you of the previous night. The faint sound of birds chirping outside and the peaceful quiet of the house made you feel oddly at ease.

Sitting up, you stretched and noticed it was already close to 7 a.m. Deciding to return the favor for his hospitality, you wandered into the kitchen. It was spacious and organized, much like the rest of his house. After rummaging through the cabinets and fridge, you found enough to whip up a simple breakfast—eggs, toast, and bacon.

The aroma of cooking food must have woken Laxus because, by the time you were sitting at the table with a steaming cup of tea, he appeared in the doorway. His hair was slightly mussed, and he looked less intimidating than usual in his relaxed state.

“Morning,” you greeted, smiling up at him.

“Morning,” he replied, his voice still gruff with sleep. His eyes flicked to the spread on the table, then back to you. “You’re up early.”

“I thought I’d make breakfast. I hope I’m not intruding—I made myself comfortable,” you said with a sheepish grin, gesturing to the food. “By the way, you have a lovely house. I didn’t get to say that properly last night.”

He grunted in response but sat down at the table without complaint, digging into the food. You sipped your tea, occasionally glancing at him as he ate. He seemed more relaxed now, though the comfortable silence was still a defining feature of your interactions.

After about 30 minutes, Laxus finished eating and stood, grabbing his plate. “I’ll take care of these later,” he said, placing it in the sink.

You nodded, finishing your tea. “Alright. We should probably get ready to head to the guild.”

He gave a small nod of agreement, and the two of you moved through the quiet house, each preparing for the day ahead. The air between you felt lighter now, the walls that had been up between you the night before slightly lowered. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.
