“So, what happened?” Yaya asked, drumming her fingers against the table nervously. Gempa choked back tears. “Api’s gone.” Ying laughed timidly, trying to assure herself. It’s just a sick prank, even if Blaze…
Halilintar silently handed them the note, his expression dead. Usually the crimson eyed teen would be emotionless, but this was different. Almost soulless. After the two read it, they’re eyes immediately widened in shock and they covered their mouths.
“ I’m sure that prankster is just playing another of his pranks again right..? Like what Ying said!” Yaya asked with a hopeful but bitter sweet grin. The elemental brothers all avoided her gaze. Taufan bit his lip and refused to say anything.
Gempa looked down in heavy guilt and grief and crossed his hands, tears evident in his eyes. Halilintar remained silent and lowered his cap and tried to stifle in tears. Hot tears immediately streamed down Duri’s pale cheeks like rivulets and Solar ran over to comfort his younger brother.
Ais just looked dead. No emotion whatsoever. Ais trudged up to the room. He had been in mourning the entire time. Solar looked at his brothers, who were unwilling to speak one word. And he snapped.
“ BLAZE IS GONE, OK? I DON'T KNOW IF HE’S DEAD OR.. HE RAN AWAY… I JUST KNOW HE’S GONE!” The usually insensible teen boy scowled.
“He’s gone for good.. we just have to accept it. Alright?” He sighed, hot tears welling up in the depths of his eyes. He turned back, and took off his glasses to wipe his tears and soft sobs could be heard as he ran off to his room.
“But… it's not confirmed he’s dead. We couldn’t find his body.” Duri said hopefully, a bittersweet smile on his face. “ I- I think we- I would know if he died.” Taufan corrected, finally speaking up.
“ You’ve been reading too many silly comics.” Solar snapped, coming back to the room, no trace of his earlier breakdown. “I don’t know… there’s always hope!” Duri started hopefully. “Api wouldn’t do that to us!” he added. “But he would do it to himself.” Solar acknowledged.
Fang turned on the TV. “ UH- guys, you might wanna see this.” At the same moment, Ais came down. “Blaze-Api’s dead.” Everyone turned to him in confusion. “How- how do you know?’ Tanah choked. “I’m closest to him. Unlike some people who forgot his birthday.” he glared at the brothers. “I felt him go.”
“NO! THAT IS NOT TRUE.” Yaya blurted out, crying. Ying hugged her tightly. “We’ll get through this. I…. hope..” she whispered the last part.
Gempa finally spoke up, “We don’t know if it’s true. Daun’s right,” Fang ruffled his hair. “Well, I’m sorry, he’s most likely dead. Look at the TV.” the furry sighed. They all stared at the TV in expectation. They knew he was dead, but it was even worse seeing it written out.
teenager found,
Anyone related to him or knows him, please call 9879-0024 for confirmation and report to CrestView Hospital.
‘We have to go!” Halilintar said immediately. “Alright!” Taufan agreed. “Go where?” Gempa asked, defeated. “How do we know he isn’t dead?” He continued. Solar sighed, running a finger through his hair.
“Well, they reported Blaze in an unconscious state, and they would’ve announced if he died, so I think it’s worth checking it out.” Solar decided. They dialled the number and agreed to leave the next morning.

“It’s today!” Gempa breathed. “Yeah…” Duri agreed nervously. Ais rubbed his eyes. They were puffy and red from crying the night before. He slipped his sky-blue phone into the pocket. The night before, Taufan and Duri had cheekily snagged his phone, trying to relieve tension.
They dashed back downstairs with regret obvious and shoved Ais’ phone into Solar, Gempa, and Halilintar’s confused and shocked faces. There was a long stream of messages that Air had texted to Blaze. Like, hey, I miss you. Api, please don’t die. I’m here for you and I love you more than you will ever know. (To which Petir and Cahaya had tried to hold back their laughter about how emotional it was.)
Everyone had mostly cooled down after finding out Blaze wasn’t dead. (Except Ais and Gempa) They had borrowed a giant car with turbo jets (which Taufan and Duri had requested stating that Blaze would’ve wanted them to ride in a stylish vehicle.)
“Get in!” Solar huffed, shoving Taufan and Duri into the back. “There’s only two front seats…. Air is sitting at the back, it's practically a mini club for him, got snacks, an ipad, lights! So that means… Either Cahaya or Petir will have to sit with Angin and Daun.” Gempa muttered.
Before Solar could react, Halilintar was already buckling his seatbelt at the freaking front seat. “Hey! I was gonna sit there!” Solar huffed, crossing his arms. Halilintar smiled smugly at him. “Well, I’m already here. Go sit with… those people.”
He wrinkled his nose at their playful brothers, who were giggling and chatting animatedly about a story of a clown monkey who decided to become an astronaut which they had heard from Blaze.
“Solar, hurry up and get in. The hospital opens at 10 AM, we’re gonna be late.” Gempa chided. Solar scoffed, “On the way back I’m sitting at the front! Annoying much, Halilintar?” Halilintar gazed innocently at Solar. His eyes widened. “I didn’t do anything!” he protested, hiding a smile.
Solar rolled his eyes and pointed the finger at him. He grabbed the neuropsychology book from his bag and started reading. At least I brought my book.
—————
“Cahaya, no reading in the car, you’ll get motion sickness!” Gempa reprimanded, finally noticing the thick, giant book Solar was attempting to read during the bumpy road. “Then, tell me why Air can use his ipad.” Solar demanded.
Tanah sighed, exasperated. Taufan chirped, “It’s because he's depressed!” Duri snorted and some both of them were thrown into fits of laughter. Petir sighed. “This gonna be a long ride…”

Ais clasped Blaze’s hand tightly. A silver tear slipped down his cheek. “Api… Please… Wake up..” he said sadly. “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it for your birthday. But… I got a present. I miss you. Come back.” he whispered, tears cascading down his cheeks.
“Air….?” Blaze murmured weakly. “API!” Ais yelled, hugging him tightly. “I missed you so much. Api? Blaze? API!” Blaze didn’t reply. He was breathing, not dead. Yet. Ais hugged him again. “Get well soon….”
He left the room. “Well, is he awake?” Duri finally spoke up. Ais shook his head silently. “Tanah, please can we see him?” Taufan begged him, he and Duri giving him their saddest puppy-dog eyes.
“Of course, everyone can. Air, you coming?”Gempa asked, turning to the water manipulator. Ais looked away, avoiding his gaze. He shook his head slightly.
“He’s- he’s in a coma. That’s what the doctor said.” Ais said bitterly. “I don’t know how long he’s gonna be in it.” he swallowed hard, choking back tears. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s not your fault.” Gempa reassured him, reaching out to embrace him in a warm hug.
“I know, it’s all you guys fault.” Ais replied angrily, pushing him away. “Of course Api doesn’t consider you his brothers. He’s told me before. And I agree. What kind of brothers are you if you forget his birthday and blame him for getting mad over it.” he glared at them.
Then he turned away and hunched his shoulders. “And you guys regret it only when it's too late. Drop the act. It is your fault. And you guys know it.” “We’re sorry, Air...” Duri apologised, unshedded tears welling up in his eyes. “You should say that to Api. Oh right, he’s in a coma.” Ais scoffed sardonically
