Solitary {2} : The Walking Dead

Chapter Seventy-two.

We did it.

"April, are you still with us?" Rosita questions, as she starts putting the pin into the door, "Yes." "Alright, we're coming in." Iris says, opening the door, Rosita goes in first and Daryl comes up behind them.

"Oh, God. Thank you! Thank you!" April says, hugging Rosita, "The safe is right there." she says, pulling away and pointing to the safe, "Can you get into it?" Iris asks,

"I don't know." Daryl says, Iris starts looking around the room, trying to find anything that could help them as Daryl starts trying to pry the safe open, the lights flicker and suddenly and alarm starts to go off.

"What is that?" Daryl asks, "shit" Iris mumbles, looking at the code pad Rosita found, Iris rushes over to it, Rosita presses buttons trying to stop it but only making it worst.

"No, they're drawn inside the house!" April panics, "Shut it off!" Daryl shouts, Iris pulls her knife out, "Yeah, I just have to cut the power to the circuit board." Rosita says, Iris pushes her blade behind the circuit boar Revealing wires.

"Hurry. Hurry!" Rosita tries to work on the wires but nothing is working, "move" Iris says, the redhead starts driving her knife into the circuit board, the alarm stops and Iris lets out a relieved sigh.

"Come here! Give me a hand!" Daryl shouts, Iris slides her knife back into her belt and makes her way over to Daryl, she opens a bag and they start shoving the cash inside.

"Oh, they're coming! Please, hurry!" April says, Iris closes the bag and they rush to the door, Daryl and rosita push a set of draws in front of the door.

"We go out the same way we came in. No sudden moves. We walk right out that door. You ready?" Daryl asks, "Wait. She doesn't have enough blood on her." Rosita says.

"Put that on." Iris says, taking her arm guards off and handing them to Rosita and Daryl so they can put them on April, "What about you?" the woman asks, "I'll be fine." Iris says, "Thank you."

Suddenly gunshots echo through the house, Iris pulls out her knife holding it up as the other two slide the barricade out of the way, the door opens and Iris prepares to kill whoever is on the other side.

She lowers it when she sees Mercer and Carol, "You gonna let us in or what?" Mercer questions, walking into the room, "How'd you know where we were?" Daryl asks Carol, "You didn't show up for lunch, so I got Mercer." Carol says.

"Alves and Castle said you came here to steal some money." Mercer says, "Nope. That did not happen." Daryl says, dragging one of the walkers into the room, Iris closes the door behind him.

"What, y'all looting houses now? Is that it?" Mercer asks, "Sebastian made us come in here." Rosita says, "He threatened our kids." Iris adds, "And who are you?" Mercer asks, looking over at April, "Some soldiers brought a group of us here, and they told us that if we... We got in, we could have a cut of the money. I had to" April explains.

"How many were in your group?" "Twelve. Now it's just me." April answers, "How many more rounds we got?" Mercer asks Carol, as the lights flicker, "Maybe ten." Carol says, "Lot more walkers out there than that." Mercer says, "We gut up, and we go." Daryl says.

Iris takes off the rest of her uniform, handing it to Rosita so she can help April put it on, the group cover themselves in blood, Iris holds onto her knife as they walk through the sea of dead.

She stops when she hears April start to panic, "No! No! No!" the woman screams as walkers start clawing at her, Iris drives her blade into the walkers heads, the others joining as Mercer and Carol shoot at the walkers.

The last walker drops to the floor and Iris looks down at April's body, she bends down and drives her knife into the woman's head, standing up again and looking at her lifeless body. Daryl picks up the bag of money before gently placing his hand on her back, "come on" he whispers.

The group starts moving again, walking out of the door and making their way back up the hill, "Could've used your help back there." Mercer says, as they come up to the other officers, "Yeah, looks like it." Alvees laughs.

"But we don't answer to you. That the money?" he asks, picking up the bags Daryl and Rosita had just thrown down, "How many others did you send in before them?" Carol asks, "I don't know.What, thirty? Maybe fourty? Hey, at least we're coming home with..."

Two gunshots go off, Daryl pulls Iris back out of the way as they look over at Mercer still pointing his gun at the dead men, Iris watches the man stand and stare at the men, sliding his gun back into its holster, "You have to pay him. Sebastian." Mercer says.

"What?" Daryl asks, "No" Rosita says, "If you don't, he'll come after you, and that's a fight you ain't gonna win." Mercer says, he picks up the bags "I'll carry the bags through the gate. They won't search me." he says, turning and walking away, "Alright." Daryl mumbles.

Rosita, Iris and Daryl sit at the desks, silent and tired, Iris looks up as the door opens, "There they are!" Sebastian says, walking over to them, "So?" he asks, Daryl doesnt say anything as he points to the bags on the desk.

Iris watches the man as he walks over to the bags, a wide smile on his face as he opens them up, "Yes! Well done, ladies and gents! Well done! Yes!" he cheers, looking at the money.

"Hey, where are...? Where are Alves and Castle?" he questions, looking around, "They didn't make it." Mercer says, from behind them, "Huh." Sebastian says, Iris watches as he slams some of the money down on the table next to Daryl.

"What's that?" Daryl asks, "That is your cut. I'm of course going to pay you. Oh, my God... congrats, guys! We did it! Hey, I am so glad that we're friends again." the man says, lifting the bags and walking out of the room, Iris looks back at Mercer before looking at Rosita and Daryl.
