Solitary {2} : The Walking Dead

Chapter Fifty-four.

 Acheron: Part 2.

Iris stands back, watching as Daryl smashes a hole into the wall, Dog jumps through the hole, Daryl following before turning and holding his hand out for Iris, she holds onto it and climbs through the gap in the wall.

"Thanks" she whispers, pulling her torch out of her belt and shining it around the dark tunnel, the couple slowly start walking down the tracks, Iris looks up at a drawing on the wall, she looks down at a body on the ground next to her, letting out a small sigh before walking away.

Iris crouches down and pushes things around with her knife, trying to find anything, she picks up a couple of pill bottles, shaking them to see if there's anything in them, after hearing a rattle she reaches back and shoves them into her back pocket.

Dog starts barking behind her, she looks up to see him running away, "Dog" she calls out, standing and running after him with Daryl, they follow Dog to a dark tunnel, "Hey, Dog! Come here! Come here!" Daryl shouts.

Iris holds her torch in her mouth and climbs into the tunnel, "Iris!" Daryl shouts, climbing in and following her. After crawling longer Iris stops for a second, she pulls her torch out of her mouth and looks back at Daryl, "you hear that?" she asks, going quiet and listening to the walkers growls.

"Yeah" he mumbles, shining his torch behind them, "we gotta keep moving" Iris says, turning again and crawling towards Dog's barking. The walker gets closer, only a couple of feet behind them, Iris stops when they get to a wider part of the tunnel, she looks back at the walkers behind them.

When she looks ahead again two walkers push the metal gate shut, Iris turns her body as the walker snaps its teeth at Daryl, she grabs onto his backpack, pulling his body into hers, Daryl sits his crossbow in front of him, pulling an arrow back and shooting the walker.

He lets out a sigh as he lays back into Iris, resting his hand on her leg as they sit either side of him, she quickly kisses him on top of his head before pulling her knife out and turning to the metal gate.

She kicks the gate open, knocking the walkers to the floor before pulling herself out of the tunnel, she lets out a groan as she hits the floor, she stands as Daryl pulls himself out of the tunnel, landing on the floor next to her, she helps him up and stands back as he pulls out his morningstar.

Swinging it around and knocking it into the walkers heads, Iris grabs his crossbow from the tunnel and hands it to him, she pulls out her sword and follows Daryl down the tracks, "Dog?" Daryl calls out, Iris freezes when she sees Roy stumbling towards them "Daryl, help me." the man says before dropping to the floor.

Dog runs at the walkers, jumping at one and biting at it, Daryl aims his crossbow at the walker shooting it in the head, Dog runs over to them and Daryl checks him for any injuries, Iris walks towards the walkers, driving her blade into their heads.

As Daryll gets rid of the last walker Iris rushes over to Roy, kneeling down next to the man, she lays her sword on the floor and starts searching for where the blood is coming from, "How bad is it?" Roy asks, "It ain't good." Iris says, Daryl kneels down next to her and starts looking through his bag.

"You went topside?" he asks, "Yeah." Roy says, turning on his side and coughing, Iris looks down at the blood the man just coughed up, "Bad idea." Daryl says "I lost Gage." Roy says, "Where's the ammo bag? Where's the ammo bag?" Daryl says.

"I lost that, too." Roy sighs, Iris takes the cloth from Daryl and starts wiping the blood from the man, Roy pushes her hands away, "Don't... Stop. Don't waste that on me." Roy says, he reaches into his bag and pulls out a grenade and two handguns, "Here. It's all I got." he says, handing them to Daryl. "Tell my kids I didn't die a coward." Roy begs.

Iris stays behind Daryl, holding her sword in front of her as they look around the train cart, walkers crowd the door at the other end, Daryl sits his crossbow on one of the seats, "Shh, boy." Daryl whispers to Dog as he takes his backpack off.

Iris slides her sword onto her back and Daryl hands her one of the guns, they raise the weapons, walking next to each other and shooting the walkers as they move through the train cart, "i'm out" Iris says, sliding the empty gun into her belt and pulling out her knife.

"Same" Daryl says as they keep walking, driving their blades into the walkers heads, Iris kills more of the walkers while Daryl pulls the chair from in front of the door, "Come on, little more!" Negan says, pushing against the door as Daryl helps pull it open, "Hurry!" Negan shouts and the group starts running through the door.

"Come on, go!" Daryl shouts, holding the door open, everyone makes it into the cart, "Get behind something!" Daryl shouts, Iris drops to the floor, "cover your ears and open your mouth!" Iris shouts, hiding in between the trains chairs, she holds her hands over her ears and opens her mouth, the train cart shakes with the explosion from the grenade.

Iris slowly stands and looks back at the others before making her way to Daryl, "are you okay?" she asks, grabbing his arm and looking him over, "i'm fine" Daryl says, pulling her into a hug.

Iris closes her eyes as the night air hits her skin, she looks up at the dark sky as they finally make it out from the metro, she sits down next to Daryl, laying her head on his shoulder as he looks down at the money in his hands.

"What is that?" Maggie asks, "It's a letter from this kid to his parents. It's from back before." Daryl mumbles, "You found it?" Maggie asks, "Yeah, down in the tunnels." Daryl says, "See anything else down there?" Maggie asks, "Nah. Just the same stuff you saw." Daryl says, putting the money in his pocket.

"We heading out?" Agatha asks, Iris lifts her head from Daryl's shoulder, "We need to take a detour first. Arbor Hills." Maggie says, "What's there?" Daryl asks, "Hidden supply depot. Georgie set 'em up all over, in case we ran into any trouble when we were out looking for survivors. It has ammo, food, weapons. Rest up there, restock, and then head to Meridian. Radio tower marks that neighbourhood." Maggie explains.

"You know where that is?" she asks Negan, "Yeah. Come on." Negan says, Iris stands up, holding onto Daryl's hand as he stands, "Come on. Come on, boy." he says and Dog follows them.

The group walk through the streets, tired and hungry, Iris looks up at the trees lining the road, bodies hanging from them, "Well, this place sure has gone to shit since the last time I was here." Negan says, "Let's double back. We can cut through..." Negans cut off when an arrow flies into Roys head.

Daryl grabs Iris and they run to the trees, dropping down and hiding, Iris pulls out her sword and carefully peers around the tree, she watches a group of masked people storming down the road. "Shit" she whispers.
