Solitary {2} : The Walking Dead

Chapter Seventy-five.

Shoot to kill.

"I've heard a lot of stories about when the world fell. There were more dead than the living, and it started to look like the world would go cold. It felt like it was almost there... Almost.

Some people survived by connecting with each other. Making found families... Others gave in to the darkness. That was a long time ago. And it's now. Will it be tomorrow?"

Iris drives her blade into the walker's head, throwing them to the floor, "Clear!" Daryl shouts, "clear" Maggie says, Iris makes her way over to them, "clear" she sighs.

They rush to the window as they hear gunfire from outside, Lance and his soldiers walk down the road, "How many you think they got?" Maggie asks, "Don't matter. Gonna take them out one by one." Daryl says.

The three of the quickly hide behind the walls when they hear footsteps, Iris aims her gun as she moves around the wall, letting out a sigh when she realises it's Gabriel and Aaron, "Look who we found." Gabriel says.

Iris looks at the people behind them and freezes, Negan, "Where's Hershel?" Maggie asks, "He's with Elijah and the others. He's hidden and safe." a woman says, "He's good, Maggie. We're here to take out shithead and the dickless brigade." Negan says, looks over at Iris as she stands and stares at him.

"Well, like I've been saying, we should go back to the Commonwealth first. Get our people out and then deal with Hornsby together." Gabriel says, "No, Gabe, he probably already radioed back. You know that. Look, he knows us. We're never getting through those checkpoints." Aaron says.

"And if he has his people go after our families in the meantime?" Gabriel questions, "Carol's there. So is Rosita and Jerry, Ezekiel. We have to hope they can handle it." Aaron says, "Hope is running low, and the longer we're out here having these debates, the more our families back home are at risk." Gabriel argues.

Iris steps back, looking away from Negan, her head spins with all the different problems, "Our people are out here, too. We need to find Hornsby and kill him before he gets to anybody." Maggie says.

"Wait, wait, hold up, hold up." Daryl says, Iris looks up from the floor, "We can do all of this. They've never seen your face before." Daryl says, pointing at Negan, "Right, are you saying I just walk right on in there?" Negan asks, "Yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying." Daryl says.

"Me too." "No, Annie, not you too. Only one of us needs to go into the belly of the beast. Hey. I need you to be safe. Besides, I am fucked either way. Hey, not gonna get rid of me that easy, okay? Alright. So what's the play?" Negan asks, looking over at Iris and Daryl.

Iris lays on the roof of one of the buildings, she sits her rifle in front of her, looking down at the street, she listens to the screams of two of the soldiers as they get ripped apart by walkers.

Negan pulls the mask off and glances up at her before sliding a radio and gun to the door of a white van, she watches him climb into the officers car and drive off, Daryl slides the door open, reaching down and picking up the gun and walkie.

He nods to Iris before closing the door again, Iris stays still and waits for Lance and the others.

"Does anyone have eyes on that goddamn car?!" Lance shouts, "Fire it up. We need to get a message to the Commonwealth." he orders, Iris watches one of the soldiers try and work on the radio system.

"I don't think this signal is strong enough." the man says, "Dial in now!" Lance shouts, he lifts his walkie up to his mouth, "Calhoun. Calhoun! Come in. Do you read?... Contingency protocol on Daryl Dixon. Aar..." he shouts, Iris hears the radio screech.

"Alright, go find a goddamn signal and get a message home. If that car shows up, make sure our people are on the wall, ready." Lance orders, "Yes, sir." the soldier says, standing up and walking away, "shoot to kill!" Lance orders.

Iris aims her gun and shoots one of the soldiers in the head, moving her gun and shooting another in the leg, she shoots at the soldiers as they shoot at Daryl, her bullets fly into the soldiers heads, "kill him!" Lance orders.

Iris shoots at them as they run towards the car Daryl was hiding behind, she stops and watches as her husband climbs into their car, turning it on and getting their attention, he drives off as they shoot at him.

Iris slowly stands on the roof, she quietly walks down the stairs and runs out the back door, sticking to the allies, she hears the cars crash and speeds up.

"Daryl" she calls out, running over to him as he climbs out of the car, he wraps his arms around her, looking down the road and watching as the car speeds off, "are you hurt?" she asks, pulling away.

She reaches up and gently moves his hair from his face, revealing a cut, "I'm fine. Are you okay?" he asks, looking at her, "it's been a while since we've done something like this" Iris smiles.

Daryl, Iris and Maggie quietly walk through the street, Iris leads them out of the way when she hears more soldiers, they rush down some stairs and keep low, pressing their backs against the wall.

They listen as the soldiers walk past them, "Where are the others?" Daryl asks, carefully peering up at the road, "They'll be here." Maggie says, "Daryl, what y... What you did back there... I know that Leah meant something to you once. I'm sorry." Magggie says.

"Glenn would've wanted me to look after you. You don't have to ever say sorry. Not to me." Daryl says, looking over at Maggie, "Hey! Hey! Sss!" Iris says, loud enough for Gabriel to hear her.

"Anything?" she asks the man as he runs over to her, "He's dug in up ahead with half his men. We wouldn't get close." Gabriel says, "The others are flanking us from behind. We should go east before they pin us in." Aaron says.

"Is there any way to get behind him?" Maggie asks "Not without them spotting us." Gabriel says, "Unless they never see us coming." Annie says.

Iris climbs down the ladder, joining the others on the ground, she lifts her hand gun from her belt and looks up and down the tunnels, she grips her knife in her left hand.

Iris watches Aaron and Daryl kill two walkers before they make their way into a different section, "If we keep going that way, we should come up right behind them." Annie explains, "Maybe we can get them to come down here to us." Daryl says, Gabriel raises his gun and shoots above them.

Iris watches as two soldiers walk past her, Aaron and Annie slash the back of the soldiers knees, "Okay, this ends now." Lance says, coming out of his hiding spot with more soldiers following him, "Drop your weapons!" one of the men orders, pointing their guns at Aaron and Annie.

Iris and Daryl come out of their hiding spots, Iris aims her gun at the soldiers while Daryl holds his knife to Lance's neck, "guns on the ground. guns on the ground! Tell 'em! Now!" Daryl orders, "Weapons down!" Iris watches more soldiers come out, outnumbering the group.
