Carter was in one of his exploratory moods, which usually meant one thing—he nibbled on anything he could get his hands on. Whether it was toys, blankets, or even furniture, Carter's little teeth were working overtime.
Malia noticed him biting the edge of a stuffed dinosaur. "Carter, sweetie, that's not for nibbling," she said gently, taking it from him and replacing it with one of his silicone teething toys.
But Carter wasn't having it. He tossed the teething toy aside and grabbed one of Liam's toy trucks, trying to gnaw on its tire.
"No, no, no," Colby intervened, swooping in to grab the truck before Carter could do any damage to himself—or the toy. "Buddy, you've got to stop chewing on everything."
Carter pouted, his lips trembling, before letting out a frustrated whine.
"Okay, let's redirect," Malia said, bringing over a frozen teether from the freezer. She handed it to Carter, who, after a moment of hesitation, began chewing on it. The cool sensation seemed to calm him down.
Colby sighed in relief. "Crisis averted—for now."
The family decided to take extra precautions around the house, knowing Carter's habit wasn't going anywhere soon. Malia set up a small basket filled with safe chewable toys and teethers in the living room. Colby went around, putting away any small or unsafe items Carter could get his hands on.
Despite their efforts, Carter found new opportunities everywhere. During lunch, he tried nibbling on the edge of his high chair tray. During playtime, he gnawed on the straps of his stroller. Even during storytime, he attempted to bite the corner of his board book.
By the end of the day, Colby and Malia were exhausted. "Do you think he's teething again, or is this just his thing now?" Colby asked, watching Carter nibble the corner of his blanket as he lay on the floor.
"Probably a mix of both," Malia replied. She crouched down and gently stroked Carter's hair. "At least he's happy when he's chewing on something."
Carter, oblivious to their conversation, giggled around his blanket, clearly content in his little world of nibbling.
