Paridhi's hand shook as she pushed open the heavy office door. And then her whole world crumbled around her.

There, right in front of her eyes, was Abhimaan. But he wasn't alone.

A girl was pressed close to him, her hands gripping his broad shoulders.

His hands were on her waist, and they were standing so close that it made Paridhi's heart break into tiny pieces.

She tried to breathe, but her lungs wouldn't work. The file in her hands suddenly felt too heavy to hold.

It slipped through her trembling fingers, sending papers flying everywhere across the shiny floor.

The loud sound made both Abhimaan and the girl jump apart and look toward the door.

"Pari..." Abhimaan's voice was barely a whisper.

His eyes went wide when he saw her standing there.

He stepped away from the girl so fast it was like he'd been burned.

But the damage was already done.

The image of them together was burned into Paridhi's mind forever.

The room started spinning around her. Paridhi grabbed the doorframe to steady herself, her legs feeling weak.

How could everything change so fast?

"Ms. Sharma," Abhimaan's voice was hard as he addressed the girl, but his eyes never left Paridhi's face.

"You may leave now."

The girl quickly gathered her purse and some papers from his desk.

Her face was red with embarrassment as she mumbled,

"Thank you, sir." Her high heels made sharp clicking sounds against the floor as she hurried past Paridhi and out the door.

As soon as the door closed behind the girl, the tears Paridhi had been holding back started falling.

They rolled down her cheeks one after another, like pearls from a broken necklace.

"How could you?" The words came out in a broken whisper.

Her voice cracked with pain.

"How could you do this to me, Maan?"

"Pari, you're misunderstanding everything," Abhimaan stepped toward her, his hands reaching out.

"Please, let me explain-"

"Don't!" Paridhi backed away from him like his touch would burn her.

Her back hit the closed door.

"Don't come near me!"

"Rani sa," The pain in his voice matched the hurt in his dark eyes.

"Is this all the trust you have in me? After everything we've been through?"
