First I want to let you know in this part the character of Ty Whitney is not a human character. He is a beastial tiger, while Marcus Hunter looks like the handsome guy next door. One of them is a villain. Can you guess which one?
Meanwhile, Marcus was on other side of town. In a small apartment building he entered, not knowing that someone was watching him. Ty Whitney had followed the young man into the building, but he kept himself out of sight. Marcus entered apartment 108 located on the first floor. He stayed by the door, listening closely to the goings on inside.
"Nice to see you again, Marcus," Ty heard the voice of a much older man.
"You too, Father," Marcus said. He could hear his footsteps echoing but growing fainter with each step. "I'm sorry for not contacting you earlier, but I've been a little busy."
"Yes, romancing the prize," he heard the man he assumed to be his father say. He heard a light chuckle at his last word. "I knew if anyone could get close to her, you could, but remember your loyalty."
"Father, I'm doing this for you," came Marcus' voice again. "I don't love her. How could I love a cowardly slut?"
"So how long did it take you to bed her?" his father asked. This conversation was making Ty angry, but he couldn't make himself known. This was after all just a fact finding mission.
"Would you believe less than twenty-four hours?" Marcus answered. He heard him take a drink of something and wished whatever it was had been laced with poison. "She's the one who initiated it," he continued to speak, but each word made Ty want to tear him apart. "If I knew, she was that much of a slut I would have been better prepared."
"Is there a possibility of an heir?" his father asked. Ty had a feeling that this was his agenda all along.
"I'm not sure, but except for that first time I have been quite careful," Marcus said and Ty heard him walk across the room again. "I don't want a child with her, not after what you've told me about her."
"She is a killer, yes, but a cunning one and any child of hers would be a powerful one." Ty heard a faint bang, as if the man brought his fist down on something hard. "If we are to culminate the new race, we must put away personal feelings to achieve the greater good. Remember, Marcus, and when the time is right, you will bring her to me."
"What if she discovers my true identity, Father?" Marcus asked and after hearing this Ty would be sure that Marianna knew exactly what these two were planning. "She hates you, and if she discovers that I am Everett Brown's son, she would kill me."
"Then make sure that doesn't happen, or you won't have to worry about her bringing your demise. I'll do it for her, so don't fuck up."
"I won't," Marcus said and Ty heard his footsteps again and doorknob turning. Ty fucked around the corner just as the door opened slightly. Still he listened closely. "So far, she hasn't suspected a thing."
"Keep it that way," the faint voice of Everett swelled in his ears. "Now, go back to your assignment."
"Fine," he said and stood in the doorway.
"I made that mistake with her mother, and it was a pity I had to kill her. Oh well, what's done is done. Go now, Marcus, and make me proud."
Marcus Hunter left the building with Ty Whitney still trailing him. Ty wasn't for sure that he was son of man who tortured her, but he knew he had to warn Marianna. What he really wanted to do was tear him apart right then and there, but it was broad daylight in a big city, and confronting him would only lead to more trouble. He didn't know how he would do it. He could never show his true face in public. The last time he did that, he ended up a slave of a carni-show. He vowed some way somehow, he would figure a way to warn her. For now, he stayed silent.
Note: If you want to know the history of Everett Brown and Marianna read the first book Broken Candle.
So the true identity of Marcus Hunter has been revealed. Will Marianna find out the truth before it's too late?
