~Harumi's Point of View~
I was playing tag with my parents, running as fast as I could to avoid being caught. “Come catch me if you can!” I shouted, giggling as I darted around. My excitement carried me to the elevator, where I came to a sudden stop. Standing there was someone around my age—a girl, I assumed at first glance.
“Wow… she’s so pretty,” I thought, staring in awe. She turned to look at me and smiled softly, her expression a mix of kindness and curiosity.
“Hello, is there something wrong?” she asked, tilting her head slightly. Her voice snapped me out of my daze.
I quickly shook my head. “No, everything is fine! My name is Harumi!” I said, offering my hand. She smiled warmly and nodded.
“Greetings, Harumi. My name is LucasV,” she said. Her voice caught me off guard, and I blinked in surprise.
“Wait… you’re a boy?!” I exclaimed, feeling my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. LucasV chuckled lightly.
“Yes, I’m a boy,” he confirmed with an amused grin.
I felt my face turn even redder. “Sorry! It’s just—you’re so—” I stammered before stopping myself.
“It’s okay! People often mistake me for a girl because of my long hair. And, well, I guess I just look this good,” LucasV said with a playful smile. I couldn’t help but nod in agreement, glancing back at my parents, who had caught up and were now observing our interaction.
“LucasV, do you live with your parents here?” I asked, the question slipping out before I could think.
“No, I live alone,” he replied casually.
“You live alone?” I asked, surprised. It didn’t seem believable to me. “Wait, you’re serious?”
“Yes. Is there something wrong with that?” LucasV asked, looking genuinely confused.
Before I could respond, a hand gently covered my mouth, startling me for a moment until I realized it was my mother’s. She gave LucasV an apologetic smile.
“Sorry about Harumi’s curiosity. I hope you don’t mind,” my father added, stepping in as well.
“Oh, it’s perfectly fine,” LucasV said with a polite smile. “People ask me that a lot, so I’m used to it.” My parents visibly relaxed, nodding in relief.
“Well, I should go now,” LucasV said, glancing at me one last time with a smile. “Bye, Harumi. Next time we meet, let’s spend some time together, okay?”
Something about his words made my chest feel strange, like a fluttering I couldn’t explain. As LucasV walked away, I slowly pressed my hand to my chest, feeling my face grow warm.
“Honey, it looks like our little Harumi has her first crush,” my mom said, chuckling softly.
I spun around to face them, flustered. “Mom, stop!” I exclaimed, my voice a mix of embarrassment and frustration.
My dad smirked, clearly enjoying my reaction. “I can’t believe it. Our Harumi has a crush on that boy.”
“Mom! Dad! Please stop teasing me!” I yelled, covering my face with my hands as they both laughed warmly. Despite my embarrassment, I found myself smiling too. As we continued our day, I glanced back one last time in the direction LucasV had gone before turning back to follow my parents.
