While waiting for dinner to be served, Mora and Jaehyun were swarmed by family members from every direction. Jaehyun's social battery was draining rapidly; it felt as though every interaction chipped away at his soul. Props to Mora for stepping in most of the time; her quick thinking and warm demeanor made things easier for him, and he was silently grateful.
Before Jaehyun could catch his breath, they were swept into another crowd. More questions, more chatter, more enthusiasm. This time, Mora was nowhere in sight—But this time, Mora wasn't there to rescue him—she'd excused herself to the bathroom, citing "woman business." Lucky her, Jaehyun thought bitterly, his eyes darting around in search of escape.
"How did you propose?" one aunt asked, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"Oh, it must have been so romantic!" another gushed, clasping her hands over her heart.
Jaehyun froze, panic flashing in his eyes. Propose? They hadn't talked about that. His brain scrambled for answers, but his mind was blank. He let out an awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck as everyone leaned in, eagerly awaiting his story.
But then, an idea struck him—a mischievous one. If Mora wasn't here to veto his story, why not make it a good one?
"Well," Jaehyun began, his voice steadying as he leaned into the role, "it was a cold winter evening. Mora had just finished her shift—she looked tired but stunning, as always. I asked her to meet me at the park. She was confused, probably a little annoyed because I kept it all very mysterious."
The crowd collectively leaned forward, captivated.
"I led her to this huge tree lit with fairy lights—"
"A tree?" someone interrupted. "How romantic!"
Jaehyun nodded solemnly. "Not just any tree. The one where we had our first date. Anyway, I had this whole speech planned out, but as soon as I saw her, I forgot every word. So, I just got down on one knee, held out the ring, and said, 'Mora, you're the only person I want to share my life with. Will you marry me?'"
Gasps and dreamy sighs rippled through the crowd. Jaehyun couldn't help but smile to himself—he was nailing this.
"And what did she say?" someone asked breathlessly.
"She didn't say anything at first," Jaehyun said, leaning in for dramatic effect. "She just stood there, stunned. I started panicking, thinking maybe I'd messed up. But then she burst into tears, tackled me to the ground, and shouted, 'Yes!' so loudly the whole park heard it."
The group erupted into cheers and laughter, some dabbing their eyes as if they'd just heard the most romantic tale of all time. Jaehyun chuckled, shaking his head as if the memory was too precious to relive for too long.
