Jaehyun stood outside his office at 7:30 a.m., shifting his weight from one foot to the other and glancing at his watch every few seconds. Why was he here this early again? Right—his boss had forced him to come in for something "urgent," leaving no room for negotiation. Typical.
He let out a low groan, pulling his coat tighter against the morning chill as he waited. Just then, a sleek black car turned the corner and glided to a stop in front of him. That had to be her.
Just as Jaehyun was about to greet who he thought was his boss, an unfamiliar old couple stepped out of the sleek black car. His brow furrowed in confusion. There was something oddly familiar about them, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
He watched, bemused, as the elegant couple—dressed to the nines—sauntered into the building, their assistant trailing behind. They carried an air of importance that made Jaehyun shift uncomfortably on his feet.
"Could they be the important people I'm supposed to meet?" he muttered under his breath. His stomach churned. They look kind of... intimidating .
Shaking off the unease, Jaehyun straightened his tie and continued waiting for his boss. She should be arriving any minute now.
Right on cue, another sleek black car pulled up, and as he had guessed, it was Mora. She stepped out wearing an all-black ensemble—shirt and pants—topped with a brown coat. Her look was completed with a striking red Birkin bag and sharp, pointy heels. The sight of her made Jaehyun's palms sweat.
"Good morning," Jaehyun greeted her, mustering his politest tone as he fell in step behind her.
"Morning," she replied curtly, her eyes not even flickering his way. Not a single smile graced her face, as usual.
As they stepped into the elevator, Jaehyun shifted nervously, trying to find the right moment to ask about the day's plans. But Mora beat him to it.
"For today's agenda," she said, her voice crisp and businesslike, "we're meeting my parents."
Jaehyun blinked, caught off guard. "Oh... Your parents? For what?" His voice was a mix of confusion and mild panic. Mora's parents? That was unexpected. She never talked about them. Not because there was bad blood or anything, but because Mora kept her personal life under lock and key.
"They're here to discuss..." Mora hesitated—a blink-and-you'll-miss-it pause that was so unlike her. "... about an arrangement."
Jaehyun tilted his head. "An arrangement?" he repeated, the skepticism practically dripping from his voice.
Before he could ask for more, the elevator dinged, and the doors slid open. Taking a deep breath, Jaehyun forced himself to follow Mora out into the hallway, his legs feeling oddly wobbly.
