By the time they returned to the table, Jaehyun's game face was firmly in place—anything for a day off to visit his family and a chance at a promotion. With a practiced flourish, he pulled out Mora's chair, drawing a few impressed glances from her relatives.
Mora shot him a look but sat down, forcing a bashful smile. "Thanks, honey."
Linda's sharp gaze immediately landed on them, but Jaehyun wasn't fazed. He leaned toward Mora, resting his hand on hers in what looked like a tender gesture. "You okay? You seem a little flushed," he asked, his voice soft but teasing.
Mora's smile stiffened, but she played along. "I'm fine. Just... warm in here, isn't it?"
Linda narrowed her eyes suspiciously, but before she could say anything, Harold chuckled. "Such a rare sight of our daughter. So in love and all."
Jaehyun gave Harold a winning smile. "I'm just lucky Mora puts up with me."
Mora squeezed his hand under the table—part warning, part gratitude. "And I'm lucky to have you," she said sweetly, though her tone had a sharp edge only Jaehyun could hear.
As the night wore on, Jaehyun turned on the charm, seamlessly weaving compliments, casual touches, and endearing smiles into their act. By dessert, even Linda seemed momentarily unsure, though her calculating gaze lingered.

Their practiced touches and stolen glances made them appear natural—even Linda couldn't immediately find a crack in their facade.
Still, Linda's hawk-like focus never wavered. Harold approached his wife with a resigned sigh. "Linda, you've got to stop with this. She's happy."
"Harold, you don't understand," Linda replied, her eyes never leaving the couple. "This is all an act, I'm sure of it. Isn't it strange that she suddenly has a boyfriend of three years and a fiancé, right after we introduced her to Leehan?"
Harold sighed again, shaking his head. "Maybe, but sometimes things happen. Just... let her be happy."
Linda didn't reply, her eyes narrowing as Jaehyun laughed at something Mora's grandmother said. She stayed silent until an opening presented itself.
As Mora and Jaehyun chatted animatedly with Mora's grandparents, Linda stepped into the conversation without warning, her voice cutting through the warmth like ice.
"So, Jaehyun," Linda began, her tone cool and calculated, "what exactly do you do for a living?"
Jaehyun hesitated briefly, aware of the sudden weight of everyone's attention. "Oh, uh... I'm Mora's assistant editor. We work together—"
