Zone 1, Milan

Adam sat at one of the cafes in Navigli Lombardi. He looked at the canal, a glimmering strip of water which mirrored the clear blue sky above. He allowed the gentle movements to steal his attention because the other thoughts he had weren't so pleasant.

They were supposed to be, right?

He was supposed to be delighted to have this once in a lifetime opportunity, but right now...He wasn't. There was so much excitement when he arrived in first class, saw Frankie's elaborate mansion, and explored their rooms with DJ - Now everything seemed to be going too fast. With the events, the afterparties, the documentary and now the Franklin Vault coming soon, it seemed like this trip was a never ending rollercoaster. A pace of life that he wasn't used to - But his friend was. It made him feel grateful for taking a solo trip out here. There were no documentaries, fashion designers, or events to worry about. Tourists walked by in unbuttoned polo shirts. Birds gathered in clusters to eat restaurant scraps. And the locals went about their day whilst moving with purpose. It was a picture perfect scenery - A pace of life that was better than the one he was being thrown into.

Ring-Ring. Ring-Ring. Ring-Ring.

Adam thought for a second his dad was busy at work but then he picked up.

"Good Afternoon Dad."

"Yeah I'm fine, how are you?"

"That's good, how's mum doing?"

"OK, OK, good. The trip is amazing so far. DJ and I travelled in first class and then we had this big car drive us to Frankie Flammia's mansion-"

"Oh, he's a fashion designer, he's very famous-"

"Yeah so we went to the mansion, then we had dinner with some of his guests. Then a few days later we went to one of his fashion shows where a bunch of celebrities were there. We even got to go to the afterparty."

"I know that our family doesn't do that stuff."

-Adam's cappuccino arrived and he thanked the waiter-

"Grazie."

"Yeah, DJ and I visited some of the tourist attractions as well...Can you see dad, it's not just doctor, lawyer, dentist - There's other ways you can be a somebody in this world-

"This trip alone is already - I can't describe it! I've experienced more luxury in these past weeks then most people experience in their whole lives-"

Adam listened to the phone speak.

"OK. Goodbye Dad."

He took a sip - The warm bitterness was delicious because it matched his mood - His entire being in the moment. He watched the tourists go by, now finding them annoying with their phones and their overly optimistic smiles. He watched them take pictures by the cobblestone bridge. Barking loudly with no awareness of their surroundings. For a split second, he imagined if someone pushed them into the canal. Into the blue-green waters. It would be funny, right? Kinda.

No. You need to relax.

This documentary thing, this filmmaking thing...It had to work. Because DJ wasn't the only one who would be going home a nobody.
