The morning air was crisp, but the tension in Alfea was palpable. Vanessa sat in the common room with Alexander and Sky, the bond thrumming faintly with their shared unease. The faint glow of her locket seemed brighter than usual, its energy rippling against her skin like an unspoken warning.
"Something's wrong," Vanessa murmured, her fingers brushing the shard she kept in her pocket.
Sky leaned forward, his blue eyes narrowing. "Wrong how?"
Vanessa frowned, her chest tightening. "I don't know. But it feels... different. Like the magic around us is shifting."
Alexander's green eyes darkened as he exchanged a glance with Sky. "The veil."
Vanessa nodded, her chest tightening further. "It's weakening."
Before either of them could respond, Professor Silva's voice rang out from the hall, sharp and commanding. "All students report to the briefing hall immediately."
The bond buzzed sharply, the urgency pulsing through their connection as the trio rose and hurried toward the briefing hall.
The hall buzzed with nervous energy as students gathered, their whispers filling the air like static. Vanessa stood between Alexander and Sky, her locket glowing faintly beneath her shirt as Silva stepped forward, his expression grim.
"A breach in the veil has been detected," Silva announced, his voice cutting through the noise. "It's located near the ruins of an ancient elemental shrine, and the energy is unstable. We need to secure the area and contain the damage before it spreads."
Vanessa's chest tightened as she exchanged a glance with her soulmates. The bond buzzed faintly with their shared determination, and Vanessa stepped forward.
"I'll go," she said, her voice steady.
Silva's gaze sharpened as it landed on her. "Vanessa, this mission will be dangerous. The veil's energy is unpredictable."
"I know," Vanessa said firmly. "But I'm the Elemental Heir. This is my responsibility."
Silva hesitated, then nodded. "Very well. You'll lead the team."
Vanessa felt the bond pulse with Alexander and Sky's quiet encouragement as she turned to face the room. "Let's go."
