SEASON 3, EP. 9
Malleus Maleficarum (FINAL PART)

The Impala rumbled to a stop at the curb, the faint creak of its doors heralding the arrival of its passengers. Dean, Sam, and Beau stepped out, each carrying the air of urgency that accompanied a case. Across the street, Amanda's house sat cloaked in shadows, its front door adorned with the ominous yellow of police tape.

Dean adjusted his suit jacket and smirked as they crossed the street. “All right, boys. Showtime.”

The three approached a neighboring house, where a woman knelt in her garden, a trowel in hand. She worked with a focus that didn’t falter until their shadows loomed over her. She glanced up, momentarily startled.

Sam continues to talk, "we're following up on Amanda Burn's death, going around the neighborhood and talking to neighbors and stuff like that."

The woman stutters as she tries to keep her cool front on, not wanting to give off the vibe that she KNEW what had happened. "But didn't she - I mean she killed herself right?"

    Sam nodded, "maybe, maybe."

Dean spoke up, "we heard you were friends with the deceased right?"

She nodded and gave a quick glance at the ground before she took a glance at Beau. Her breath slightly hitched at his intense gaze. "Yeah, I guess so."

"Did you have any idea about her practices?"

"I'm sorry, what kind of practices."

Sam gestured to the house next door. "Well see, her house was littered with Satanic paraphernalia."

Dean nodded along, "a regular Black Sabbath."

The woman shook her head. "No, the - but she was an Episcopalian."

The three men gave a quick frown before they all glanced at each other. Dean chuckled, "well, then we're pretty sure she was using the wrong Bible."

The woman had a hard time speaking as all three men looked at her expectantly waiting for any kind of answer from her.

    "Elizabeth, you all right?"

All three men turn when they hear a voice, only to see two women walking up the driveway and take their position on either side of Elizabeth.

"I'm fine, uh, Renee, these are Detectives. They say Amanda was - she was practicing-"

Renee puts an arm on Elizabeth's arm and interrupts her before she can finish talking. "I'm sorry detectives; you can tell that Elizabeth is a little bit upset."

Beau stepped forward a little bit to insert himself. He kept glancing at the way Renee held onto Elizabeth's arm, her hold was tight and firm. "Of course, Miss...?"

"Misses. Renee. Van Allen." She pronounced every word slowly and emphatically, like she was important and her name had to be known. "Would you like me to spell it for you?"

Beau gave her a tight lipped smile. "No I think we can spell it just fine."

Renee gaped at him, not expecting him to bite back.

Dean put a hand on Beau's shoulder and gave him a quick look before looking at Renee trying to diffuse the situation. "We'll get by, thanks."

Renee rolled her eyes, "this Amanda business has been hard for Liz. For all of us."
