The reality and gravity of the situation were on Kat's mind as she sat at home. She didn't mean to catch feelings and it sucked. Trying to shake it off and distract herself with attempting to learn new hobbies wasn't working. Every time she heard her phone buzz she would secretly hope it was Morgan but her heart dropped when it was the group text. The eerie feeling of him leaving in a week or two was looming around in her mind and it was unsettling.

By the time the evening rolled around, she was slightly hoping that Moegan wouldn't text her. Maybe this would just mean he ghosted her before it could go further and it would be okay. She wasn't sure she could pretend that everything was fine but distance was key. But as if on cue, her phone buzzed making her immediately snatch her phone off the coffee table.

Morgan: Are we on for tonight? 8?

Kat felt frozen as she read the words on the screen. As much as she knew she should deny the invitation for her own good, she knew she would do the opposite. But at least she could tell her friends.

Kat: hanging with Morgan at 8

Amara: ooo ok have fun ;)

Kat stared back at her phone screen with his name and texted him back with a simple "yeah".

At exactly 8 PM, his truck rolled around making her heart skip a beat. Kat took a deep breath before heading out, preparing herself for whatever the night ahead entailed.

Morgan greeted her with his usual grin, but there was a soft look on his face as he opened the truck door for her.

"You okay?" he asked her as she climbed in.

"Yeah just a long day," she answered as she forced a smile.

He didn't push her for answers which she was eternally grateful for as they drove off. Despite the small conversation being had in the car, all she could think about was him leaving to go on tour.

The two ended up at a local restaurant with outdoor seating and a small intimate setting. With the string lights illuminating the yard they were in, Kat felt herself relax with Morgan as he draped his arm around her as they lingered in the back.

The two made small talk as they watched the band in front of them and got lost in the music for a moment with a beer in hand. But as the band began to close out, Morgan turned to Kat with a serious tone, "We need to talk".

Those were four words everyone dreaded hearing. Her stomach flipped as he led her to a more private corner outside the seating area.

Morgan leaned against a tree as he took a big sigh, "I know you've been thinking about me leaving".

Kat subconsciously crossed her arms, feeling the tension brewing and building up. "It's hard not to".

He nodded as he ran his hand through his hair nervous, "Look I'm not going to pretend it ain't a big deal. Writing an album and going to the last leg of my tour is a big deal, it's what I do. But leaving you... I don't know".

Kat blinked, caught totally off guard. "Morgan it's not like we planned anything long term. I mean we're just-".

"Just what?" he interrupted keeping his voice hush but firm and assertive. "Having fun? Seeing what happens? It ain't like that anymore and I'm not stupid. I know you feel something too".

Kat's heart raced at his words, he wasn't wrong but she didn't know the right thing to say.

"You're leaving Morgan," her voice began to break as she spoke softly.

"And? I want to figure out how to make it work" he said quickly.

Kat felt tears begin to form in her eyes. "What if it doesn't work?" she asked as her doubts and uncertainty crept up on her.
