"He said what?!" Amara gasped as she nearly spilled all her wine on the couch.
Kat nodded as Amara shook her head in disbelief. "I'm going to chop his balls off. Are you going to read his texts?" Hailey followed up.
The girls has called in an emergency meeting after Kat sent a text of emotional urgency in the group chat. Kat AirPlayed the texts on her phone onto the TV.
Morgan: Kat I'm sorry
Morgan: Pick up, please
Morgan: Come on
Morgan: Kat I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it.
Morgan: I've been missing you and stressed, I am sorry.
She didn't bother to read the same repetitive messages as her friends began chipping away at the conversation in front of them. Was she an awful person for this? She now hated the way she viewed herself for this.
"These are pathetic excuses," Hailey pointed out gesturing her hands towards the TV out of frustration.
Amara nodded, "They really are. But how do you feel Kat?".
The two pairs of eyes stared at her as she shrugged. She didn't even know how to feel.
"i.... I don't know. He is not wrong. I just feel like a horrible person now," she shrugged keeping her voice small, "I want him here in person. I can't help but think if things should end".
She wasn't expecting the last sentence to slip into her mouth, hell, she didn't even know she was thinking that. The three of them looked at each other as Kat's eyes began to tear up at the thought of losing him.
"Really?" Amara asked out of confusion.
It was evident she had stunned both of her best friends by the thought.
Kat's voice cracked as she wiped the tears from her face, "Do not look at me like that. I didn't even realize that was how I felt. It just slipped out".
Hailey leaned her body engagingly towards her giving her full undivided attention as Kat put some soft country music station on in the background. "Are we thinking of a break or... done?".
"I don't know," she groaned in frustration. "I'm tired of feeling alone and tired".
The girls all went silent for a moment. Amara grabbed the remote as she took a deep breath, "Ok this isn't like us. Let's watch something".
Hailey leaned back on the couch cushions pouring Kat another glass of wine. Kat couldn't help but smile at her two best friends. Watching the TV screen scroll through the movie options she let out a gasp, "TWILIGHT".
The girls nodded in agreement.
"What team are you?" Hailey asked as she swirled her own wine in her glass.
"Jacob," Kat answered quickly.
"I'm Edward sorry," Amara sipped her wine.
"I'm Jacob," Hailey furrowed her eyebrows at Amara, "Edward is so toxic".
Amara gasped in disbelief, "No way. Jacob literally IMPRINTS on their daughter Hailey".
Kat shot up and ran to her closet, shifting through her shirts. Where was it? Changing into her Team Jacob shirt, she walked back out as her friends laughed at her.
"No way," Amara said dumbfounded.
"Yes, way. It was a gift from my mom," Kat laughed at her own appearance before sitting down as the movie played in the background.
Hailey grabbed a blanket to swaddle herself in as they continued their discussion, "Edward is so pale Amara and he's like.. 150 years old".
"Also he has to move all the time, she HAD to become a vampire because of him not aging" Kat agreed with Hailey.
"Just wait and see guys," Amara pointed to the TV, where Bella was observing the Cullens for the first time. Hailey and Kat couldn't help but chuckle at the cringe of the movie.
When Kat's eyes had opened, her best friends were asleep on the couch as the next edition of the movie played. She had fallen asleep, not worried about the wine being out or the makeup that was now smudged.
Pulling her blanket over her body more, Kat shifted her body to get more comfortable when she heard a knock.
One knock.
Two knocks.
Three knocks.
What the fuck.
Kat scurried to the front door wrapped in her blanket, rushing to the door so her friends wouldn't wake up. Her body tensed as she creaked the door open slowly.
Her heart jumped at the sight in front of her as she mentally cursed herself for not attempting to look better. Her hair was a rat nest and her makeup was.... half gone.
"What?" was all she managed to harshly let out in a whisper.
Morgan looked up, his eyes tired and his voice low as he extended his hand with the roses he had bought for her — they definitely endured some damage on the ride over.
"I had to see you and you weren't responding. I couldn't sleep knowing how we had just left things," Morgan said.
Kat took the flowers out of his hand and stepped outside the house, closing the door behind her so she could speak at full volume.
"You should've thought of that before Morgan," she stated coldly.
Morgan sighed with his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. "I know I messed up Kat. I should have never said that. I'm sorry".
The two stood in the chilly air outside for a moment in silence. The tension was thick and Kat was too tired to overthink anything or try to sugarcoat a response.
"You don't get to just show up here and think all is forgiven Morgan," she said holding on tightly to the blanket wrapped around her body. She felt bad he was in a hoodie and sweatpants, she should have invited him in but she wanted to stand her ground.
"I don't think that. I am supposed to be on a bus right now to the next stop but I'm going to fly," he immediately said.
Before Kat could say anything, Morgan's eyes had been locked onto her door and a creak was emitted from the slightly opening door.
"Well fuck good going" Amara softly scolded Hailey as she opened the door.
The two were bundled in their own blankets as they tried to spy on the arguing couple.
"I swear to God-" Hailey began to speak.
"Hailey-" Kat began to warn her, but Amara took over.
"You have 10 minutes Morgan," Amara said as she opened the door and gestured for him to come inside.
Morgan blinked stunned but nodded as Kat couldn't help but let out a small smile at Amara. Walking inside her place, she turned around for a brief moment as Morgan took his shoes off.
"Follow me," she said as she led him to the bedroom.
