3rd person pov:

Los Angeles wasn’t known for snow. It was the city of sunshine and palm trees, where a sweater was the heaviest thing most people owned. So when an unexpected cold front rolled in, blanketing the streets with a rare layer of powdery white, the entire city buzzed with awe and confusion.

Kylie Cantrall, however, was thrilled. She had been glued to the window since the first flake fell, her face practically pressed to the glass as she stared at the winter wonderland forming outside. Her girlfriend, Malia Baker, sat curled up on the couch, a steaming mug of tea in her hands.

“You’re like a kid on Christmas morning,” Malia teased, watching Kylie bounce on her toes.

“Mal, it’s snowing! Real snow! In LA! This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing!” Kylie spun around, her eyes sparkling.

Malia smiled softly. Kylie’s enthusiasm was contagious. “I get it, but it’s freezing out there. And you don’t exactly have the warmest clothes.”

“I’ll layer up,” Kylie said, already rummaging through the closet for her coat. She pulled out a puffy black jacket and threw a scarf around her neck. “Come on, it’ll be fun! Let’s go make a snowman or something.”

Malia shook her head, amused. “You go ahead, snow angel. I’m not built for this kind of cold.”

Kylie pouted but didn’t push. “Fine, but you’re missing out.” She leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to Malia’s cheek before darting outside.

The air hit her like a slap, sharp and icy, but Kylie barely noticed. She stepped into the snow, her boots crunching against the fresh layer, and let out a laugh that echoed down the quiet street. Everything felt magical. The palm trees looked ridiculous with their dusting of snow, but Kylie found it charming.

She threw her arms out and twirled in the middle of the street, snowflakes catching in her hair and melting on her cheeks. She tried catching some on her tongue, laughing when they disappeared before she could taste them.

For the next hour, Kylie built a snowman that was more lopsided than round, made a snow angel on the driveway, and tossed snowballs at imaginary targets. She was having so much fun she didn’t notice the cold creeping into her fingers and toes or how stiff her cheeks felt.

Inside, Malia watched from the window, sipping her tea. At first, she found it endearing, but as the minutes turned into an hour, her amusement turned to worry. Kylie was stubborn, and sometimes she didn’t know when to quit. Malia grabbed a blanket and stepped outside.

“Kylie, babe! Come inside!” she called, her voice cutting through the still air.

Kylie paused, looking up from her snowman. “Just a little longer! I’m almost done!”

Malia sighed, wrapping the blanket tighter around herself. “You’re going to freeze out here! Don’t make me come drag you in.”

Kylie waved her off with a grin, her cheeks bright red. “I’ll be fine, Mal! I’m tough.”

Malia didn’t argue. She knew Kylie well enough to know it was pointless. Instead, she went back inside and started prepping hot chocolate.

When Kylie finally stumbled back into the house, her face was pale except for the crimson flush on her cheeks and nose. Her hands were trembling as she struggled to peel off her gloves.

“Kylie!” Malia rushed over, grabbing her girlfriend’s hands. “You’re freezing! Oh my God, your fingers are like ice!”

Kylie laughed, but it was weak. “I think I might’ve overdone it.”

“You think?” Malia snapped, though her tone was more worried than angry. She guided Kylie to the couch and grabbed a blanket, wrapping it tightly around her. “Stay here. Don’t move.”

Kylie watched as Malia hurried into the kitchen, muttering under her breath. A moment later, she returned with a bowl of lukewarm water.

“What’s that for?” Kylie asked, her teeth chattering.

Malia knelt in front of her, taking Kylie’s hands gently. “You might have frostbite, babe. We need to warm your fingers up slowly.”

Kylie winced as Malia guided her hands into the water. The initial sting made her gasp, but Malia held her hands steady, her touch firm yet careful.

“I told you not to stay out too long,” Malia murmured, her brow furrowed in concentration.

“I didn’t realize it was that bad,” Kylie admitted, her voice small.

Malia glanced up, her dark eyes softening. “You’ve never really dealt with snow before. I should’ve made you come in sooner.”

Kylie smiled faintly. “You’re cute when you’re all worried.”

Malia rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the blush creeping up her cheeks. “And you’re reckless. But I love you anyway."

For the next hour, Malia doted on Kylie like a nurse. She alternated between warming her hands and toes, massaging circulation back into her fingers, and making sure Kylie sipped on her hot cocoa. When Kylie finally stopped shivering, Malia relaxed, though she still kept her girlfriend wrapped in the blanket.

“You’re not allowed to go outside again unless I personally approve your outfit,” Malia said, sitting beside Kylie and pulling her close.

“Does this mean I get extra cuddles as a reward for surviving?” Kylie teased, leaning into Malia’s warmth.

“You’re lucky I like you,” Malia muttered, pressing a kiss to Kylie’s temple.

“Like? I thought you loved me,” Kylie teased, though her tone was lighthearted.

Malia chuckled. “Fine. I love you. But you’re still a pain in the ass.”

Kylie grinned, snuggling closer. “I love you too.”

As the snow continued to fall outside, the two of them stayed curled up on the couch, the warmth of their love chasing away the winter chill.
