Malia pov:I had been planning this for weeks, though it felt like a lifetime. It wasn't just the engagement I was preparing for, but also the idea of asking Kylie’s dad for permission. It felt so traditional, but I knew how much her family meant to her. After all, Alex Cantrall was one of the most important people in Kylie’s life, and I wanted to do this the right way.
The thought of proposing to Kylie made my heart race in excitement and anxiety. I had the perfect spot in mind—an open park where we had gone on our first date. That place held so many memories for us, and it seemed fitting that it would be the backdrop for one of the most important moments of our lives.
But first, I had to ask Alex.
I nervously knocked on the door, and when Alex opened it, I nearly lost my voice. His expression was unreadable, his tall figure looming over me, but there was a kindness in his eyes. It wasn’t like the intimidating look some people might imagine. He had always been welcoming, but I still felt that sense of respect and awe for him.
“Hey, Malia. What’s up?” he asked, his voice warm.
I cleared my throat. "I… uh, I wanted to talk to you about something. It’s important."
Alex raised an eyebrow but motioned for me to come inside. I followed him to the kitchen, where we sat at the table, a casual atmosphere that didn’t match the whirlwind in my mind.
"I know this might seem a little old-fashioned, but I wanted to ask for your blessing. I want to propose to Kylie."
There was a brief pause, and I could see Alex's eyes soften. I had been nervous, but now I felt more confident. This was the person who had raised Kylie, loved her, and who I knew I wanted to spend my life with.
Alex’s expression shifted from a fatherly gaze to one of thoughtfulness. "I can’t say I’m surprised," he said with a small smile. "You two have been through a lot, and you make each other happy." He paused, taking a deep breath. "But I need to know you’re really ready for this. It's not just about the proposal. It's about everything that comes with it."
I nodded, my heart pounding. "I’m ready. I love her more than anything. I want to make her happy, and I want to spend the rest of my life doing that."
Alex studied me for a long moment, then smiled warmly. "Alright. You have my blessing. Go ahead and make her the happiest woman alive."
Relief washed over me. I felt like I could breathe again. “Thank you, Alex. I won’t let you down.”
After that, everything fell into place. I went to the jewelry store, searching for the perfect ring. The moment I found it, I knew it was the one. Simple, elegant, yet special—just like our relationship. I couldn’t wait to put it on her finger.
Finally, I made arrangements for the romantic dinner in the park, where it had all started. The same bench we’d sat on for our first date, the same view, everything. I made sure everything was perfect—fairy lights, a soft blanket, and all of her favorite foods. I was ready to ask her to spend forever with me.
______________________________Kylie pov:
Lately, something had felt off. Malia had been distant. It wasn't like her. I noticed she’d been a little quieter, a little more reserved, like she had something on her mind but wasn’t ready to share it. I couldn’t figure out if I had done something wrong or if it was just stress from work or life in general.
Whenever I tried to bring it up, Malia would smile and brush it off. “I’m fine, just tired,” she’d say. But I could tell there was more beneath the surface. Maybe she was just busy with something important, but it didn’t stop the nagging feeling in my chest that something was off.
