|Chapter 9: Tell Me What To Do|
America is a faraway place. Too far, that is. But this is something Kris needs to do, more for him, maybe for Baekhyun as well. He needs to do this for the both of them.
Kris already knows it's a selfish decision, but this is a battle he needs to fight and win – for Baekhyun. Even without telling, Kris knows Baekhyun is his everything and he can't let Jongin easily take him away from him. Not when Baekhyun, someone that is all that matters for him, is just someone Jongin sees whenever Kyungsoo's not around.
There's no way, no way, Kris will ever let that happen.
Not in this life or in any lifetime.
Let Baekhyun be a prize to be won, it doesn't matter anymore because Baekhyun already is a treasure for him. He deserves nothing but the best. If needed, he'll be the one to fight the battles meant for the both of them just so he could save him the scars. No matter how hard, or how excruciatingly painful, as long as it's for the love of his life, for the future of having Baekhyun by his side, as long as Baekhyun will be happy, Kris will whole-heartedly do it.
Because it's Baekhyun.
Because it's for him.
Because he loves him more than he loves himself.
Because Baekhyun is the biggest piece in his heart and in his life that makes him complete.
But, what if the only reason why he's fighting would be the one to tell him that he can finally stop?
What if it's Baekhyun that tells him he won't have to do it anymore? That there's no need for it anymore.
What if it's Baekhyun that lets go midway and tells him what he has done is already enough? That even before their story is done, he'll be the one to close the book and leave Kris with a hanging end, unsure and lost?
What if Baekhyun will be happier than he is now next to Jongin's side?
That's the very reason why he needed to find someone else, right? Someone else that fills the parts that he failed to fill.
More 'What if's, more questions, and frantically more negative ones keeps coming, tying Kris down over his sit. Thinking about what will happen in the near future has him balling his fists and slowly creasing his eyebrows unconsciously for the people he is with to see.
He blames Jongin, completely.
"Stop thinking so much." A hand squeezes lightly on his shoulder, having the warmth bring him back. "Whatever that is – it won't happen. Trust me."
Kris is having early lunch right now with Kibum, along with their friend Jessica from the publishing company, and Kris internally thanks the latter for the encouraging words. Though, not that it really worked.
