Sheriff Sarah and Sheriff Noah stood outside an apartment building and looked toward apartment No. 37B, which was registered under the name of Dr. Nelson.
"Who is Dr. Nelson?" Sheriff Noah asked.
"I don't know who he is to Dr. Rose Wilson, but after searching Dr. Rose's background, I found out that before taking up the case of Jack Nolan, Dr. Rose used to live here. I saw the CCTV footage of this area too, and that footage confirmed that Dr. Rose used to live here. So, I thought to search this apartment for a clue about her," Sheriff Sarah explained.
"What do you mean she was living here before taking on Jack's case?" Sarah asked.
"Noah replied that after starting work on Jack's case, she moved to a new apartment."
"If she already had an apartment, then why did she take up a new residence after starting work on Jack's case?" Noah asked.
"Maybe it was closer to St. Senan Mental Asylum," Noah suggested."But she left that apartment the day Jack was transferred to a different asylum," Noah said.
"That's too coincidental, isn't it?" Sarah said to Noah and moved forward.
They entered the dimly lit and cluttered apartment.
Sheriff Noah looked around and said, "This place looks like it hasn't been touched in ages. Are you sure Dr. Rose lived here?"
Sheriff Sarah also looked around and said, "Yes, I am sure. Let's see what we can find."
Sheriff Sarah moved forward and opened the drawers of a cupboard that was fixed in the wall of the apartment's only bedroom.
At the bottom of the cupboard, she found a stack of files and old photographs. She laid them out on a table and said, "Noah, come here."
"Look here. This file has academic certificates," Sarah said, forwarding the file to Sheriff Noah.
"Whose certificates are these?" he asked.
"The first certificate is in the name of Mia Nolan, and then all the other certificates are in the name of Rose Wilson," Sarah said, looking toward Noah with a puzzled expression.
"What is this?" Noah asked, adding, "Why are the academic certificates of Mia and Dr. Rose in the same file?"
Sarah held the file and turned its pages one by one. After that, she went back to the cupboard and opened the same drawer from which she had retrieved the file and photos. She saw a paper in the drawer that was a court decree for a name change.
She gave the paper to Noah and said, "Noah, we were so foolish," Sarah said and sat down in a chair.
Her mind was joining the dots, and then she said, "Mia and Dr. Rose are the same... or you can say these two are names of the same person," Sarah said, her tone full of shock. Noah looked at the court decree, which declared the name change from Mia Nolan to Rose Wilson.
"What the hell is this?" Noah said in shock.
"Mia is Rose and Rose is Mia," Sarah said in a low voice.
"The court decree clearly states this," she said again.
Noah looked at Sarah's serious face and said, "It means Dr. Rose fooled us?"
"No, Mia fooled all of us," Sarah said and stood up from the chair.
"Mia didn't die during some abortion. She survived it and somehow managed to escape the Harris family... and Jack supported her by telling everyone that Mia died during the abortion," Sarah said thoughtfully.
"Every time she met with Jack Nolan, we thought that a doctor was treating her patient, but we didn't know that a sister was meeting her brother and making new plans to fool us," Sarah said in a low voice.
"How is this possible?" Noah asked.
Sheriff Sarah kept thinking for a few moments, and then she picked up a certificate of Dr. Rose and saw that the name of Dr. Nelson was mentioned in the guardian block.
"Who is this, Dr. Nelson? This apartment is registered under his name, and his name is also written in Rose's academic certificates as her guardian," Sheriff Sarah asked.
"We have to find out," Noah said, adding, "He must know where Rose is hiding and what her purpose was in bluffing everyone."
"Yes, find out who he is," Sarah said.
Noah nodded his head and then gasped out a deep breath. This case was getting more complicated with every passing day.
"So, the situation is that we have to confirm whether Dr. Rose and Mia are the same person. And if yes, then why did she change her identity and spread the news that Mia died during the abortion?"
"How did Mia survive the abortion, and was she taken for an abortion in the first place?" Noah was making a list of questions that needed to be addressed.
"Whatever Dr. Rose told us about Jack Nolan's past life and present mental condition, was it true or not?"
"Who is this Dr. Nelson, and what is his role in the story of Jack, Mia, and Dr. Rose?"
"And in the end, we have to find out what Dr. Rose's purpose was when she used to meet Jack in St. Senan and what plans they made together." Noah finalized the list of questions and gasped out a deep breath.
"We came to this apartment hoping to find Dr. Rose and get answers about Jack's case, but instead, we're only more confused," Noah commented.
"Jack and Rose have played enough with us. Now we have to end this game and reveal their realities to everyone," Sarah said.
"Let's get out of here," Sheriff Sarah said and moved out of the apartment. She was taking all the photographs, files, and documents along with her. Now she had to begin her quest to find the reality of Mia, also known as Dr. Rose Wilson.
