"Sir, I am in the hospital and trying to find out what happened at Dr. Nelson's house," Sheriff Sarah said.
"I wasn't expecting this level of carelessness from you people," the Police Chief grunted on the other side of the phone.
"How could you leave Noah alone at Dr. Nelson's house when you people had already called Rose Wilson, who is an alleged killer and mentally ill?" the Chief grunted again.
His anger wasn't going to settle soon. His mind was boiling after discovering that Sheriff Sarah and Sheriff Noah had found out during the investigation that it was Rose Wilson who murdered everyone and then they had used Dr. Nelson to call her. "You forgot about every formality," the Chief said.
"Sir, I thought that once we left Dr. Nelson's residence, he might change his mind, and his love for Rose might make him step back from his statement. That's why I asked Noah to stay with Dr. Nelson while I went to get an arrest warrant," Sarah tried to explain why she left Noah alone.
"You should have obtained an arrest warrant and backup force first and then asked Dr. Nelson to call Rose... Your hurriedness spoiled everything," the Chief scolded Sarah.
"I am sorry, sir," Sarah said, continuing to walk down the long corridor of the hospital.
"Your sorry means nothing to me... Your recklessness has resulted in the murder of two more people," the Chief said in a harsh tone.
"I know, sir... and I will get Rose behind bars," Sarah said in a low voice.
Two hours ago, when she arrived at Dr. Nelson's residence, she found an unconscious Noah and the dead bodies of Dr. Nelson and his nurse, Zack.
The paramedic staff brought Noah back to senses and then he told her that it was Rose Wilson who killed Dr. Nelson and Zack and made him injured. After that Noah was sent to hospital because his left eye was badly injured and he needed immediate treatment and Sarah took the dead bodies to the forensic department. After fulfilling all the formalities, she came to see Noah and find out the details of what happened at Dr. Nelson's residence.
"You have to arrest her and end this case or I am going to be held accountable for the murder of Dr. Nelson and Zack," Chief said and then he added,
"You have Jack, brother of Rose Wilson, use him and bring closure to the case."
"Ok, sir," Sarah said and disconnected the call.
Sheriff Sarah put her mobile in the pocket of her trousers and looked at the wooden door of the hospital room where Sheriff Noah was admitted.
She entered the room and found Noah propped up in bed. She saw the left side of his face was swollen and the injury to his eye was covered with a bandage. Noah looked up as Sarah walked in. he got up and tried to welcome her with a light smile.
"Sheriff Noah," Sarah said in a gentle voice.
"How are you?" she asked.
"I am good," Noah said plainly.
Then both of them looked up at each other and gasped out a deep breath.
"Where are the dead bodies? Noah asked.
"They are with the forensic team," Sarah replied.
"Noah tell me, what happened at Dr. Nelson's house?"She asked and looked toward Sheriff Noah.
Noah winced slightly, adjusting himself to sit up straighter and then he said,
"It's a hell of a story, Sarah." Noah started and then he continued as,
"Mia or you can say Dr. Rose was waiting for us. When I was outside in the living room, she slipped into Dr. Nelson's room. She—she killed him."
Sarah's eyes widened and she asked, "Didn't you hear any scream of Dr. Nelson or something else?"
