More Strange Dreams

My eyes shot open as my conscious returned. I whipped my head around only to find that I was once again lying beneath Thalia's pine. But if my attempts had done anything to fight that poison it didn't show. The tree was still blackened and no leaves grew upon its branches. It was dying, the spirit inside of it was dying, Thalia was dying.

I picked myself back up scanning around me until my eyes eventually landed on my discarded spear. I sighed as I knelt down and retrieved Clamor Terrae. I was about to depart when suddenly another pounding headache struck through my mind, I nearly dropped the spear again as I collapsed on the ground. It was as if someone was pounding on my skull over and over again. I could hardly think through the pain. But luckily it subsided quickly and the throbbing settled to a manageable intensity. I was about to stand and find somewhere to sleep for the night when suddenly something spoke from behind me.

"Well you look great."

I spun around to face the source of the voice, raising my spear ready to impale whoever or whatever it was. But the breath caught in my throat as I saw them. A complete copy of me standing beneath the shadows of the tree. Every detail down to the rose tucked behind their ear. But as always, what set us apart were the tendrils of shadow clawing up their body. Wrapping around them like wisps of smoke. I had seen them a few weeks prior, just before Thalia's tree had been poisoned. But as I looked closer something seemed off. They looked sick, weak even. Like they had been malnourished.

I merely brushed the thought as I narrowed my eyes at them. Them merely chuckling at my glare as they spoke.

"I might even say stunning."

I gripped my spear tighter.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't run this spear through your chest and out your backside!"

I yelled back at him sneering as I held my weapon tighter.

"Ha! We both know that wouldn't work out well for you, given our last encounter."

"I beat you once. I can do it again!"

They laughed even harder this time. "Beat me?! You merely hid behind that arrogant nagging mother of yours. Without her you'd be nothing, without my help!" He yelled back at me.

"You-" I was cut off as another wave of pain cascaded through my mind and a sudden fit of coughing overtook me. I fell to my knees, and blood began began to spurting out of my mouth. Coating the blades of grass beneath me, while that shadowed version of me smiled and snickered over me.

"You realize it don't you?"

I could hardly answer him as the pain in my head continued, and I coughed up more blood.

"Why you need me. Why you can't live without me?"

I wanted to lash out at them. Fight them, bite back at them, anything. But I couldn't, I could only remain on the ground in pain, coughing blood.

"The powers too much for your mortal body to handle. You need me Y/n. Since the day you were born, I've been the one holding us together!"

Their voice grew louder and their anger seemed to intensify, before slowly settling.

"Strength is nothing if the person wielding it can't live long enough to use it."

They began to approach me, as I lied on the ground unable to respond. Blood dribbling from my mouth as pain thundered through my body.

"You can't survive without me."

They took one last step as they lorded over me, and somewhere inside my body I found the strength to retaliate. Shooting out my hand as I grabbed my spear lying beside me. Slashing out at him as the point ripped across his lower chest, sending a blood splat of darkness and shadows across the grass.

"Ugh, you insolent child!"

They took another step closer as they began to reach down towards me. But before they could an echo of thunder sounded off in the distance. And they whipped their head about in concern. Their eyes slowly settling on the tree behind us.

"You're lucky that girls still kicking around in there. Or else you wouldn't be getting away this easily."

I could hardly respond as I coughed more blood.

"Remember what I said Y/n."

I managed to look up at them, as tendrils of shadow wrapped around their body fully encasing them.

"You can't survive without me."

And suddenly he disappeared, nothing left but a cold breeze and a permanent air of darkness.

I felt my vision begin to blacken again. As blood dripped out of my mouth, but suddenly I heard the sounds of footsteps rushing up to me.

"Come on man!"

Someone knelt down in front of me pulling me onto their lap as they continued.

"If you die, then I die which is a scenario I would rather not have."

My eyes blinked rapidly as I looked up at the newcomer. And eventually the darkness receded and my vision cleared. Only for me to be presented with my head resting in Thalia Grace's lap. My blush was almost as pink as the roses on my spear.

"Uh, hi."

She sighed in relief. "Thank Zeus you're not dead."

She then propped me back up into a sitting position as she continued.

"You can't exert yourself like that again." she said sternly.

Slowly the pain in my head receded and the blood dried. Allowing me to form a response.

"Uh, I mean. . . I was just trying to-"

"Save me?" she snickered. "As much of a piece of hydra crap that guy is he's right about one thing. Your life relies on them keeping you together and right now that isn't working out so well. So the more you use your power, the closer it brings you to a one way ticket to Hades."

I nodded. My brain was still a little fried from everything that had just happened, but a question still popped in my mind.

"Um, are you really Thalia?"

She shrugged. "Yes and no."

"That doesn't really answer anything."

"Was it supposed to?"

I looked back at her oddly unsure of how to respond.

"I'm joking." she clarified. "Yeah I'm sort of Thalia. Like a mixture of her conscious and the spirit of the pine tree."

"Uh. . ."

"Don't worry I'm not really sure how it works either. I just know that I'm here to help you."

I looked back feeling stupid that I still didn't full understand.

"Help with?"

"Saving me obviously." she answered. "Oh yeah, that reminds me I need to give you something."

"Wha-"

I was about to respond when suddenly the whole ground seemed to shake. And somewhere from above a loud voice spoke.

"Y/n!"

I looked around urgently unsure of what was happening, but Thalia merely sighed.

"Looks like we're almost out of time." she let out a deep breath as she turned back towards me. "You may want to get a pen or something because this is kind of long."

"Wha-"

"No time for questions." she said cutting me off. "Just try and remember this."

I nodded not even attempting to fit in a response.

"Good, now listen closely. 30, 31, 75, 12."

"Wha-"

I was about to ask her to elaborate, but my vision blurred once again, and I soon found myself drifting out of consciousness. The ground continuing to shake as someone continued to call out my name. And as darkness crept on my vision and I drifted further and further Thalia gave me one last warning.

"Remember it! And try not to die!"
