"It's breaktime, Zhan. Aren't you going to get up from your seat?" Yu Bin said as he appeared at the door of his cubicle around three o'clock. "I don't think you had lunch either. Are you starving yourself on purpose to look more irresistible on your wedding day?" Yu Bin teased.
"I'll just have a sandwich delivered from canteen, Yu Bin. Thank you," Zhan said wearily. "I feel like hiding my head in the sand."
Yu Bin laughed. "Can't help us, Zhan. You arrived at the office today with a new look. Beautiful and with those legs that run forever. Wow! You really surprised us all" Yu Bin eyes twinkled.
"I wish I had just kept my old look."
"I'm glad you did not because I prefer this new you. Which is truly shocking. You haven't even given the guys a chance to make a move, and now there's the announcement that you're marrying the boss. Surprise is an understatement. And naturally, you've sparked everyone's curiosity."
Zhan sighed. "That's why I don't want to go to the canteen. I don't know how to explain Yibo's announcement."
"You can't hide forever. "Come on. I'll answer their questions for you."
"And what will you say, huh?"
Yu Bin shrugged his shoulders. "That Mr. Lan truly loves you because the disguise hadn't deterred him. Period."
Zhan rolled his eyes. "You forgot, it's him and Zhou Fei who are supposed to get married."
Yu Bin fell silent for a moment and stared at him. "You are spoiling my romantic explanation. It didn't even cross my mind."
"See?" He returned his attention to his computer. "Now, you're going to ask me what really is the truth behind the wedding announcement."
"I won't, rest assured. Unless you fill me in. But knowing you, you will clam up. So, I should believe what the boss said in the canteen earlier that he decided to follow his heart and marry the love of his life. I can almost believe it, Zhan. His eyes spoke it all."
Zhan bit his lip. Good thing he was facing the computer, or Yu Bin would have seen the expression on his face. Yibo was an accomplished actor. He had his employees eating in his hand.
"Now, come on. Allow me the honor of escorting the most stunning person in this building to the canteen. They'll be green with envy." Yu Bin accompanied that with a hearty laugh.
He took a deep breath and hesitated to stand up. If he knew that Yu Bin was only inviting him to the canteen because of his new appearance, he wouldn't give in.
However, there were many instances in the past when he was invited by Yu Bin during break time. Some he accepted, while others he politely declined.
And although Yu Bin never showed any indication that he liked him, it made him comfortable to be around him. He knew that Yu Bin had a girlfriend who ran a boutique in a mall near their office, and occasionally, they would even discuss her.
"Hurry up. Make your eyes sparkle and put your heart on your sleeve and you won't have a difficult time explaining."
"Okay." Zhan chuckled. " To be honest, I'm already hungry."
"Oh, dear."
They spent half an hour in the canteen with Yu Bin. And it's true that quite a few people approached him to ask questions, but Yu Bin jokingly shooed away all his colleagues.
"Thanks, Yu Bin. You're a darling," Zhan said as they were back upstairs.
"Anytime. If it weren't for my girlfriend will cast a curse on me, I might have already forced you to elope with me and steal you away from Mr. Lan."
