He looked at his reflection in the mirror, he couldn't resist a grin. Honestly, he wanted to burst out laughing at how he looked. He was wearing some baggy black pants and a flowery long-sleeve shirt with cute little ruffles around the collar and sleeves. To top it off, he had a wide white belt cinching it all together.
His hair was slicked to one side. And for the final touch, he put on the big glasses. He totally had that nerdy look of a guy in his thirties.
"Perfect," He chuckled to himself as he spun around in front of the large mirror. It's still pretty early, the interview is at nine oçlock. It's only seven right now, and the Lan Building is close by, he's got more than enough time. He headed down to the dining room and saw his parents having breakfast.
"Is that really what you're planning to wear for the job interview, Zhan?" Fengmian asked, pausing his coffee sip as he noticed him. Zhan grinned at his parents' surprised faces, then did a little spin, like he was on a runway.
"Am I looking good?" he said with a playful grin, then took a seat and reached for the coffee pot to pour himself a cup. His parents just stared at him, completely at a loss for words, then exchanged glances.
He couldn't help but grin wider. "Am I wearing something awkward, Dad? Why do you and Mom look so stunned?"
His father shot him a sideways glance. "Well, not really. Are you trying to be Clark Kent or what?" It was clear his father struggled hard not to laugh.
"Right, Dad," he said before slowly sipping the coffee. Isn't Superman also pretending to be a Daily Planet employee?
His dad couldn't hold back and burst out laughing. "Actually, you look different, Son. you look a lot older and like you've aged fifteen years overnight! And those glasses—where did you get those from?"
Yizuan raised an eyebrow and said, "Those glasses are definitely from Ye Hua. What are you wearing, Zhan? Seriously, why would you apply for a job dressed like that? If I were interviewing you and saw that outfit, I wouldn't even bother with your application."
Smiling, he explained to his parents the reason behind his outfit choice. Minus Ziyi's personal involvement.
"I just want to ask for your opinion if my outfit is not exaggerated. What do you think? Is my outfit too much, or does it seem like a natural look?"
"It's not that bad, son," Fengmian said as he gave him a once-over. "You just look a bit older and a little out of style," he added with a laugh.
"I can't say I understand your son's nonsense, Fengmian," Yizuan interjected, her eyebrows knitting together.
The father and son exchanged glances, both grinning.
"Besides, I really don't get why you're looking for a job when there's one waiting for you in our business."
"Mom -"
"Let him do his thing, Yizuan," his dad who is always ready to back him up. "I'm sure he knows what he's doing. And if he doesn't get accepted, there's nothing to lose. Honestly, it might be better for him to not get accepted so he can help with our business." He smiled while sipping his coffee.
"Oh, so you admit that what your son pretending to be old is something silly?"
"I am Clark Kent, Mommy," Zhan smiled teasingly at his mother.
"Okay, okay," said Fengmian. "But no matter what he dresses up, your son is still handsome. Only someone blind wouldn't notice."
"Once I'm accepted, Mom, just remember this is how I'll look whenever I'll go to work. If I don't get in..." He shrugged, "...then you got your wish." Zhan gave his dad a cheeky wink. Yizuan just rolled her eyes as she watched Zhan go out of the dining room. Zhan could still hear Fengmian chuckling in the background.
