Chapter 16 - Undecided

"Hey. No sign of Bellamy or the others yet." Monty said sitting next to Octavia, Emma and me.
"Hey. I don't care." Octavia said
"Thanks for the update Mont"
"Jasper, tell us again, how'd you stay so calm? I would've been terrified." Harper said to Jasper
"Fear is only a problem if you let it stop you, right?" Jasper answered. That's definitely not something he'd say.
"That's not even his line. Finn said that." Octavia said and all three of us sighed. He's letting fame get to him. And they're praising him for what? Killing people?
"I saw the Grounders in the trees. It was like nothing I ever felt. You know, pure animal instinct took over. One pull of the trigger, two Grounders dead." Jasper said. He looked mortified yesterday.
"Pure animal instinct'? More like pure pant's-wetting panic." Octavia said and I snickered
"You don't really know what you're made of until a moment like that, you know, when it's kill or be killed and there's just nothing between you and the tip of the spear." Jasper said as if he was some ancient wise warrior which he obviously isn't.
"Alright. That's enough." I said and Octavia and Emma agreed
"Come on. Let us have this!" Monty pleaded. Us?
"Us?" Octavia asked as all three of us looked at Monty in confusion
"Look at him. The boy is a folk hero. They even gave us a bigger tent." Monty explained before we heard loud clattering. Then Dereck and Connor walked up to us
"Somebody hit the trip wire" Derek informed
"Mont stay with Emma. Octavia, Derek, Connor, let's go" I said and they all did as told. Damn. Ordering people around is fun!
"We got nothing. Connor? Derek?" I asked with my sword in hand and Octavia by my side
"Nothing." Connor confirmed
"Something moved." Derek said
"Do we shoot?" Connor asked gripping his gun like a lifeline
"No"
"Nata-"
"I said no" I repeated as I got closer but this time Connor and Derek were behind me. They're scared
"No way" Octavia said when we encountered Murphy's bloodied body and I got a flashback which I quickly shook my head to.
"What do we do?" Octavia asked but I ignored her
"Hey. Murphy" I said trying to walk closer but he flinched and slightly moved away
"I'm not gonna hurt you, okay? I just want to help" I said before trying to walk closer again but this time he didn't move away
"Okay. Connor, Derek. Bring him in. Octavia take Emma and yourself to her tent"
"Mia-" Octavia tried to protest
"It's just for a little bit. Go" I said before helping Connor and Derek carry in Murphy while ignoring the stares of everyone
*In the dropship*
"Connor, Derek stand guard, only Bellamy and Clarke are allowed in, Are we clear?"
"Yes" Connor said before they walked out
"Mia, what's he doing here?" Miller said walking in before I dragged him to the other side of the dropship
"Relax Nate. I'm gonna clean him up, get information out of him, then we'll see" I said
"Okay. What can I do to help?" Miller asked
"Just take the posts that Connor and Derek were supposed to be in" I said and he nodded
"What do I say when Bellamy and Clarke want to know what's up?" Miller asked
"Just keep them as far from the dropship as you possibly can"
"I'm on it" Miller said before leaving and I went to clean Murphy's injuries
"Why are you helping me?" Murphy croaked out
"Because no one deserves to be in this state. I shouldn't have offered to banish you Murphy"
"This is the crappiest apology ever" Murphy said and I chuckled
"You're right. I'm sorry Murphy for... well everything" I said as I finished cleaning his face
"I get it. You were looking out for our people" Murphy sighed as I cleaned his hands. Ouch. Those fingernails look painful
"I know you probably don't want to talk about it but you were tortured by the grounders, I can see that. Do you remember for how long?"
"Good eyes you got there. I think it was three days" Murphy croaked out again so I got up and gave him some water. The grounders definitely know everything about us by now.
"Thanks" Murphy muttered with a tiny smile which I reciprocated
"Where is he?" Bellamy's angry voice sounded through the dropship and I rolled my eyes before looking over to Murphy as I stood up
"You'll be fine. Don't worry" I said
"We caught him trying to sneak back into camp." Connor said
"I wasn't sneaking. I was running from the Grounders." Murphy said
"Anyone see any Grounders?" Bellamy asked looking at me and I shook my head
"Well, in that case--" Bellamy said ready to shoot Murphy but Finn stepped in the middle before I could
"Hey, what the hell is wrong with you?" Finn asked Bellamy
"We were clear what would happen if he came back." Bellamy said trying to get past Finn
"No. We are going to war, that means we need to know more about the grounders Bellamy. He has the tactical information we need to have an actual chance at surviving this" I said standing next to Finn and putting my hand on the muzzle of the rifle
"He's not going to help us. We hanged him. We banished him, and now we're gonna kill him. Get the hell out of my way."
"They're right and you know it." Clarke said backing me up as she stood beside me and I gave her a small smile before the three of us turned to Bellamy
"Girls come on, think about Charlotte."
"We are thinking about her. What happened to Charlotte was as much our fault as his. He's not lying. They tortured him." I said when I notice Clarke's face looking sad at the mention of Charlotte
"You and the Grounders should compare notes." Finn hissed at Bellamy
"The Grounders know we're at war. What did you tell them about us?" Bellamy asked Murphy
"Everything." Murphy muttered proving my predictions right
"Once he's better, we find out what he knows, and then we'll talk okay?" Clarke suggested looking at Bellamy and me
"What if he refuses to leave? What do we do with him then?" Bellamy asked knowing Clarke wouldn't know how to answer that
"Then we kill him." I said before walking out of the dropship but hearing footsteps behind me. Finn.
