Do not be a silent reader.Author's POV~
“You are pregnant, Kriti.”
For a moment, she didn’t breathe. The world around her blurred as her mind tried to grasp the enormity of what she’d just heard. Pregnant? The word seemed too big, too life-altering, to belong to her reality.
She blinked, her lips parting to respond, but no sound came.
Kriti ended the doctor’s call, placing her phone aside with trembling hands.
A gentle smile crept around her lips, unbidden and fragile, as the reality of the doctor’s words began to settle in.
She was going to be a mother.
Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision as she whispered into the stillness,
“Am I even ready for this?”Questions swirled relentlessly in her mind, each one more daunting than the last. The thought of their torn relationship clawed at her chest.
Kriti’s breath hitched as another tear slipped down her cheek.
The insecurity of their uncertain relationship gnawed at her peace, making her heart clench with fear.“I’ll make this work. For you,”
She whsipered, her fingers caressed her stomach, her touch tender and protective.Another voice screamed inside her mind, uninvited, relentless. What if it didn’t work?
She wished to inform Aayansh, to lean on him the thought of him as a father, the man she had once known so well, made her chuckle softly.
He doesn't care. He already gave me a contraceptive, making sure that he wasn't ready, She thought.
Though she longed to speak the words, she couldn’t, and she wasn’t sure he was ready.
For now, she had to face it alone.
Her mind raced, but one thought pierced through the chaos: She needed a break.
Without overthinking, she grabbed her phone and booked the flight. The decision was impulsive, but in that moment, it felt like the only thing that made sense.
As she stared at the confirmation screen, a small, bittersweet smile curved her lips. Maybe New York would give her the space to breathe, to think, and perhaps even to heal.
Maybe, just maybe, being with herself would give her the clarity she needed. For now, that was enough.
.
Kriti descended the stairs slowly, each step heavier than the last.
As she entered the kitchen, she spotted her mother standing by the stove.Walking towards her, she gently settled herself on the counter, remaining calm.
