SEE, this is why I didn't want her to go! I knew something like this was going to happen, and I wouldn't be there to protect her!" Tony yells at Steve.
"Compared to other injuries I've gotten, I really don't think this is that bad," you quip, but Tony isn't in the mood for jokes.
"That's not the problem. The problem is that Fury willingly put a teenager on a mission, knowing there was a good chance she'd get caught in the line of fire!"
"How is that any different from what you did when you let me join the Avengers?"
"Because when I let you join, I thought I'd be there to protect you!"
"The Avengers Initiative was Director Fury's idea, Mr. Stark," Vision chimes in. "We are, ultimately, under his orders, and as such, Director Fury is well within his rights to pick whatever Avengers he wants for whatever missions he needs to send them on. You knew that when you let Miss Stark join."
"Besides, this wasn't Lexi's fault," Steve tells Tony. You feel a momentary sense of relief, but then he adds, "It was Romanoff's. She went off from the mission and put everyone at risk."
"She had her own orders," you remind him.
"That Fury didn't think it would be necessary to divulge to us until it was too late!"
Tony falls silent for a moment, clearly thinking deeply. Finally, he says, "I want to talk to Fury."
"You don't have his phone number, you can't just call him up–" you begin.
"Then I'll go to D.C. and talk to him in person. FRIDAY, fire up the Quinjet."
"Yes sir," she replies instantaneously.
"I'm coming, too," Steve decides. "I've had enough of Fury's games and secrets, myself."
"What are you gonna do, barge into his office?"
Tony and Steve glance at each other. Tony half-shrugs. "That doesn't seem like such a bad idea to me."
"He'll kick you off the team, Dad!"
"Your safety is more important. Let's go, Rogers."
Before you can say another word, they stride out of the room, Tony shutting the door firmly behind them.

A few hours later, you're in your room with Peter watching Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones and passing a bag of salt and vinegar Lays between you. Tony opens the door, looking slightly frustrated. You immediately pause the movie.
"What happened?" you ask.
"Fury was extraordinarily unhelpful. Just kept insisting this was for the good of the team, though he wouldn't elaborate why."
You shrug. "He's Fury. He's always three steps ahead. I bet he has amazing reasons for doing what he did, and we'll probably find them out soon enough."
Tony frowns. "I'm getting a little tired of being told we'll learn things soon enough."
You shrug. "It's not that bad. We just have to wait it out."
He pauses. "Do you trust Fury?"
"I mean, we kinda have to, don't we?"
"Trust can't be forced. That's not an answer."
You think over what you're going to say for a moment before responding. "I... I want to, but it's hard, I'll admit that. But Natasha said she was getting S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets for him, so it seems like not even Fury knows all of them. Maybe we should wait to see where this goes before making any judgments."
