The next weekend, the park was a scene straight out of a romance movie. The soft glow of fairy lights twinkled above a perfectly laid picnic blanket, adorned with gourmet snacks and a bottle of expensive wine. A musician, discreetly tucked under a tree, strummed Jisoo’s favorite songs on an acoustic guitar, adding an intimate charm to the atmosphere.

Jisoo leaned back, his laughter ringing out as Seokmin cracked another one of his ridiculous dad jokes. His eyes sparkled like the golden light of the setting sun, and Seokmin thought he’d never seen anything more beautiful.

“This is perfect,” Jisoo murmured, resting his head against Seokmin’s shoulder. “You’ve really outdone yourself this time.”

Seokmin swallowed hard, his heart hammering. Okay, Seokmin. This is it. No turning back. You’re going to do it.

He reached into his pocket, his fingers trembling as they brushed against the small velvet box. “Jisoo,” he began, his voice softer than the strumming guitar.

Jisoo’s head tilted slightly, his breath catching as he realized where this was going. “Yes?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

But before Seokmin could continue, a loud shout interrupted the moment. “Heads up!”

Seokmin didn’t even have time to react before a soccer ball came hurtling toward them, smacking into their picnic setup. The wine toppled, spilling a crimson stain across the blanket, and the carefully arranged charcuterie board was sent flying.

Jisoo gasped, then immediately burst into uncontrollable laughter. “Oh my gosh! Did that really just happen?”

Seokmin stared at the mess in stunned silence, the velvet box burning a hole in his pocket. He let out a defeated sigh, muttering under his breath, “Guess it’s not the right time…”

“What was that?” Jisoo asked, still laughing as he tried to salvage what he could of their ruined picnic.

“Nothing, nothing,” Seokmin replied hastily, shoving the box deeper into his pocket. He forced a smile. “Let’s just enjoy the moment.”

The kids who had caused the chaos ran over, yelling apologies as they retrieved their soccer ball. One of them even offered to help clean up, but Seokmin waved them off with a tight-lipped grin.

By the time they finished packing up, Jisoo seemed a little quieter, his usual radiant cheer dimmed ever so slightly.

Later that night, as Seokmin flopped onto his couch, his phone buzzed. He picked it up to see Soonyoung’s name flashing on the screen.

“You let a soccer ball stop you?!” Soonyoung yelled the second Seokmin answered. “Are you serious right now?”

“It wasn’t the right time!” Seokmin argued, rubbing his temples.

“You were in a fairy-tale setting with fairy lights, wine, and a private musician,” Soonyoung retorted. “What do you want? A choir of angels and fireworks spelling out ‘Will you marry me’ in the sky?”

“…That would be nice,” Seokmin mumbled weakly.

Soonyoung groaned loudly. “You’re hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.”

“I’ll do it next time,” Seokmin promised.

“You better,” Soonyoung snapped. “Or I swear, I’ll propose to Jisoo myself just to put you out of your misery.”

Seokmin hung up with a groan, staring at the ring box. “Next time,” he whispered to himself. “Next time, for sure.”
