25. Happiness Only Lasts for So Long

As it was already getting late, I had run back home with Blade to dress up. I had chosen a purple princess dress with pink accents. It had a lavender corset laced with pink ribbons just like that of Rapunzel's, except for the glittery purple material running below my waist for like no end.

After applying a minimal makeup since I was trying Rapunzel and not Maleficent, I tried braiding my hair that I failed miserably. And as cringe as it sounds my savior in shining armor arrived at the perfect time. I mean he was probably reading my mind from the other end of the house. However, Blade walks in and starts braiding my hair and finally places a few colorful flowers across my braid. I looked beautiful.

He walks away and starts removing his clothes and as usual I get flustered even though I have seen him like this a lot of times. He wore his costume that consisted of white shirt, brown pants and boots. Finally, he wore a Flynn Rider vest and brown leather belt, God knows how he managed to get those. He then, untied the part of his hair to perfectly fit his character. He was so handsome that my eyes never left his, while my wolf was itching to get close to her mate, but it wasn't really a good time.

It's been some time since the party had started. All kinds of characters were seen in the party, and it was in full swing. Blade had been dragging me around the massive room introducing me to all those important people. And I was already tired and wanted to get out of this stupid dress and shoes. My face was hurting from smiling so much. Also, I wasn't using much of the curse words nowadays since I spent most of the time with Blade and he didn't use any and his discontent towards these words was clear even though he never professed it out loud.

Amelia and Alex looked perfect, he looked like the ideal Prince Charming while Amelia looked both cute and beautiful in her shiny blue princess dress.

Leah had done a stunning job with her black ball gown and makeup, flawlessly keeping her head held high and blending in with the evil yet powerful 'Maleficent'. Her eyes and hair faultlessly fitted her character.

Sarah really shocked me with her 'Alice's,' costume. She arranged Aidan- Amelia's eight-year-old brother as her date, well, he was dressed as um... 'The White Rabbit', his blue eyes and blond hair did the job. And I was amazed by the way he would pull out the antique gold pocket watch out of his pocket every minute and look at it with his nose held high, it was so cute and professional. The antique pocket watch without a doubt was from Sarah's collection.

Anna and Tristan had joined us after a short while, Anna dressed in golden ball gown- that screamed 'Belle', and our boring Angel of Death put some effort into his looks today. No, his sour expression said it all. Our Anna definitely coaxed him into that colorful suite. And don't start me on those fake horns he was forced into putting on. I couldn't get enough of them.

It was only an hour before midnight, that would decide the fate of our pack when a woman in her thirties clad in 'Elsa's costume standing in a corner twirling a glass of red liquor caught my eyes. Her smirk was a bit disturbing.
There was no problem in particular but something about her didn't sit right with me, no my wolf. My wolf had started pacing. Likewise, a few more of the guests had the same vibe as hers.

A man in 'Mad Hatter' costume who was socially involved with everyone he came across, suddenly stopped right in front of her and said something to her when her smirk almost fell but she recovered so fast that I thought I was imagining.

I also felt that Blade was unusually quiet tonight. He seemed distant and was avoiding all of us as much as possible. It seemed like he was hiding something from us. I had caught him looking into distance and his gaze fixed at Alex and Amelia not once but disturbingly several times.

After a while of socializing, it was time to cut the cake. The nerves had already begun to falter my stance, and it wasn't helping that the nervousness of my friends was painfully apparent as well.

Everyone gathered, started the countdown. I could see how Amelia's hands were shaking ever so lightly though her composure didn't falter.
It was halfway through the countdown when there went a loud bang, and fire broke out in one of the corners of the building. And in a fraction of seconds the whole ballroom went into a frenzy. Screams and wails were heard throughout the entire room. The speed of fire spreading was faster than normal. Yeah, blame the supernatural.

The heads of the pack started evacuating at the Alpha's order. Blade was already screaming commands in mind- link. In few minutes we had the momentum, but the fire was nowhere near dying down. Almost everyone was out. A few members were still lingering around the building that was now burning down to nothing, in order to ensure no one was left out in the fire. Everyone stood there watching what was once a majestic castle, crumbling into ruins leaving loud thuds and smoke behind in the silence of the night.

A woman emerges from the between the crowd yelling and screaming about her 11-year-old daughter who was left in the castle. And before we could ask anymore, Alex emerges from behind the castle nearly out of breath. Lips quivering and holding his tears he somehow manages to speak-
"Alpha, Alpha! Amelia is nowhere to be found!"

And that is when I remember my mom's words, "Remember child, it just takes one tragedy to ruin your delusions, all your delusions of happiness."
